Warning: slightly long and full of personal opinion. felt necessary
I would just like to take a second to thank all the true halo fans out there. To me, personally, a fan is someone who is willing to stick to something, no matter how bleak it may be at the time, with hopes it will get better, not someone who is around when its good and hits the road as soon as things get bad.
to me, your not a fan just because you’ve been playing for x amount of years, or have y amount of play time. if you leave because something is bad and dont give it a chance, your probably more of a band-wagoner.
So thanks to everyone who’s stuck it out, supported halo, even through this speed bump, and come up with, lets say creative, ways to defend a game that we all love.
Im kinda sick of seeing people defend the validity of their arguments by saying ‘i’ve been a fan since halo CE’ to me, if you were a true fan, you wouldn’t’ve left, and wouldnt complain about every little change, making it seem like a game making changes to remain at the top is a bad thing. Sure there are things that i feel shouldnt have changed (im looking at you, loadouts -.-) but i can accept that they are there and adapt accordingly, instead of insisting that everyone else learns to adjust to ‘the good ol days’ way of play.
Love me, hate me, politely disagree with me, whatever, tell me what your idea of a fan is (who knows, maybe im wrong and a fan is someone who played since the first game and all the ppl joining in halo reach arent there yet), why did you leave/stay with halo 4 through its lifespan, and lastly, hopes for the new Halo games?
So if you hate Halo 4 then you aren’t a true halo fan?
Nonsensical opinion.
suppose i could’ve been a bit more clear there. no, your free to love or hate whatever you want, but if you dont give it a chance, then say you hate it but still call yourself a fan, i find that very hypocritical.
> Im kinda sick of seeing people defend the validity of their arguments by saying ‘i’ve been a fan since halo CE’
The irony is that people who state that are often the ones who stick with this new Halo.
The aggressors usually establish better credentials, often from years of experience and such.
i think the point of the post has been missed. Do you think that someone is a fan simple because they’ve played all the games? are they a fan because they have 1000+ games played on this game, or 2000 on that game? are they a fan because they have played all the campaigns on legendary? or are they a fan because they genuinely have fun when they do play? is someone who has 5000 games played but deosnt have that much fun doing it more of a fan than someone who has 10 games played but has a blast playing? THATS the point i was trying to make.

Even if someone says they dislike the games they play, they keep coming back. Why?
The ‘true fan’ label is frequently used in religious circles. Halo should not be like that.
I don’t really think there is, or should be, a solid definition of a “fan” because then you get into the fans versus the “true fans” and it just gets ugly. I don’t think you should have to sit here and argue with others about who is a fan and who isn’t.
I enjoy the Halo series as a whole and I had an absolute blast playing all of them up until Halo 4 (side note: playing sleep deprived Halo 2 is not really a good idea but it is a lot of fun). I enjoyed campaign (solo and with friends), ODST firefight and Reach firefight, as well as going back to play MM on 3 and Reach.
I was there for the midnight release of Halo 4 and yes, I was excited. I was eager to see what 343 came up with and it just wasn’t what I had come to enjoy. It wasn’t that there was change, it was just there was too much of it that I barely recognized the “halo” portion of it. MM was atrocious but I will give the scenery in campaign a nod of appreciation. I didn’t find myself really caring about any of the characters and to be completely honest, the ending to Borderlands 2 Assault on Dragon Keep DLC made me feel more than Halo 4’s did.
But hey, that’s my opinion. I don’t view my complaints as me not being a fan, but rather me having genuine concern about something I have enjoyed for several years.

And that is exactly what a fan is someone who keeps coming back no matter what if the game is good or bad, I play halo for the campaign, and believe me they are good. Ive played on legendary all the time.
What im trying to say is that a FAN
is someone who keeps coming back to play their games and has fun playing no matter what the odds whether it be campaign, multiplayer, or spec ops/awesome fun side missions. I do not play Halo all that much because I havent had time to play it
(Call of Duty got the best of me). Im a fan because the storyline is good. They banned elites from Halo 4’s multiplayer so I will not play another Halo Multiplayer until they bring them back, BUT, I will play the campaign.
AGREE or DISAGREE, your opinions are not facts but they matter!
It doesn’t matter when you become in love with halo, as long as you love halo. It’s stupid to say that someone isn’t a halo fan because they never played the original halos. End of.
I think as long as you show general interest in halo you’re a fan. By limiting something with the term “true fan” you’re being just as bad as those people who feel their opinion is worth more because they’ve been around forever.
Whenever i stated “i’ve been here since CE” it’s merely to show said posters that i didn’t just hop into the series. Not because doing that makes you less of a fan…but more so it’s so they can’t make calls like “oh well you started with reach you don’t know a good halo game.” Or anything like that.

That has not been my experience at all.
A “true” Halo fan is just someone who considers themselves to be because of their enjoyment of the games/books/toys/videos.
True fan is a hard one to define… eg. a 60 yo person has every album pink floyd ever released and has even been to their live concerts. Then you get a 15 yo kid who starts getting into their music and loves it. Is the older person more of a true fan?
I think if you play h4, and put up with all it’s shortcomings, but keep coming back to play day after day. Then you’re a true fan. You may not be as experienced, but that doesn’t make you any less of a fan, imo.
> A “true” Halo fan is just someone who considers themselves to be because of their enjoyment of the games/books/toys/videos.
By that logic, I’m not a true fan then…
There is no real way to decide whether or not someone is a fan. its entirely up to them. if they consider themselves a halo fan. then they are a halo fan. you don’t have to be loyal to every single thing that has the word “halo” written on it. other wise we’d all be listening to beyonce right now. if they enjoy halo. even just part of it. thats still halo, isn’t it? so they are a fan of it

No. If they like the Bungie games better than the newer ones, then by definition they are a Bungie fan. They like Bungie’s approach to the gameplay better than 343’s and therefore, have left the franchise because they don’t like 343’s approach or simply because “343 are not Bungie”. That said, it is perfectly okay to dislike one game, but at least be patient, provide feedback, and explain your reasons for disliking said products other than the aforementioned reasons.
OT: I like this thread. This thread speaks truth. Now, i have played Halo 4 quite a bit. I first started playing Halo MP with Reach. I liked it. A month later i started playing Halo 4, and was impressed at the start. Within the last week or so however, i noticed that the game became increasingly underwhelming, and i’m not enjoying it as much as i’d like to think i did, so i went back to Reach. Its not because i dislike 343i, or because they are a different studio to the “original creators of Halo”, but i just lost the urge to play it. The bullet magnetism and high aim assist also annoys me. Ordnance drops, AAs and perks are also ruining the balance of the game, which as of late, has really thrown me off. I always used to switch between 4 and Reach every so often, but at this point in time, i’m on Reach full time. Also, the majority of my friends online play Reach more frequently too. Thats really my only reason for not playing Halo 4 as much anymore
A true halo fan would want bill Nye in the new halo
To be a halo fan, you must like halo

He means anyone of them or a selection of them. If you like even one part if that list your classed as fan.
A fan to me is something that blows cold air…(huehue)
But no!
A fan is someone who talks about or plays the game to me. (I don’t play call of duty but I’d class my self as a fan as I often talk about zombies to people as I like the co-op in CoD not the Multi)
So even people who HATE Halo 4 to me are a fan as long as its a good hate such as criticism not just down right stupidity and hate for the game.
