What Makes Halo Truly Awesome

We all know about the back and forth comments on these forums like “Trust 343”, “Stop Complaining”, but the point is, everyone wants to trust 343, but they can’t deliver what the community wants unless they ask the community themselves. I accept that Sprint is coming back, (it’s not wrong for humans to sprint), but what has always made Halo itself was it’s completely fair gameplay.

Halo has always given equal footing to everyone at the beginning of a match. (Not counting Reach) We all spawned with the same gun, and had to either use that gun, or work our way to controlling the power weapons. The unrevealed story of Halo 4 “perks” and custom
load outs will completely ruin that factor of Halo. Even if it is theoretically possible to make “perks” and custom load outs completely balanced by Damage/Second or whatnot, people will never start on the same footing again. People will find the best “perk” and use it against others who don’t want to use that “perk”, creating unbalanced gameplay.

The only way to stop unbalanced gameplay is to completely throw away the idea of “perks” and the load outs of Reach.

People might say “Oh well, the Sniper/Rocket is overpowered!” But in reality, everyone has a chance to get those weapons, and they only go to the person who has the greater skill. If sprint becomes normal and useable by everyone, then everyone has the chance to run to those weapons, not creating any unbalance in gameplay.

TL;DR So, to all you players who trust 343 enough to make good and balanced “perks” and “Custom Load outs” it’s impossible to do. It will take away the fair and balanced gameplay that has been around in Halo:CE,2 and 3.

We don’t fully understand how the perk system will even work, yet.

Halo has ALWAYS been about balance, so I’m sure it will stay that way. Look how many people complained about loadouts and it was really never that unbalanced (save for armour lock but that’s another story)

“Perks” can never be truly balanced. One player will ask: “What “perk” should I use?”, and there will always be an answer because one will stand out as being good and one bad. If everyone has the same chances, then there can be no unbalance. That doesn’t mean new stuff can’t come out in Halo, it just means that it should be applied to everyone, to keep gameplay fair.

I thought he said that they didn’t mean perks. It just got taken out of context or something. and btw that poll is just… no.

Congrats on making a totally biased poll. You don’t know how these will be implemented so don’t complain until you know.

EDIT: I voted for the first option on your poll because it is biased to one answer.

What made Halo truly awesome was the fact that it was a simplistic arena shooter.

lol, neat poll

Anything that gives any advantage at all to any player over another will create unbalance, even something as simple as giving one extra frag grenade at the beginning of a game to a player who has played more Halo 4. When should new players be given less of a chance.

343 said a progression system. That means they plan on giving different abilities to different players. Don’t tell me you think they’re going to add these things so everyone can use them off the bat.

Simplicity. Isn’t it simple to give everyone the same chances, and not create a pool of things to chose in gameplay?

You proved the OPs point in your own post. “Armor abilities were balanced! (Except for that whole Armor Lock thing…)”

There will ALWAYS be a dominant perk or ability. It is utterly impossible to completely balance a system like that.

Biased loaded poll much?

> Biased loaded poll much?

Not biased, but true. Once again, you cannot implement different abilities for different players with them being truly balanced. There will always be the one best ability.

Not biased?
O rly?

> No, Keep Halo Fair and Fun

Yeah, it’s biased.

Could always say you don’t like balance

No, no, no, and no. There may be a best ability for a certain playstyle but I garuntee you that 343i is not stupid enough to have an ability like “You are invincible”

There were gametypes without armor lock.

I did. I’m that 1 vote.

Exactly! Once armor lock was out, the best choice was comepletely dependent on your playstyle. That is what 343i is trying to cater to. Different playstyles.

But everyone has the same chance to earn the same perks right, so it is fair and balanced gameplay. You just lost the game before you played it… Because 343 didn’t give you what you wanted, when you wanted it. You see there are no rules in the sand box, so its all fair game.

Halo is naturally evolving. You guys make it seem like if 353 industries were a bunch of new people in the industry who just see what’s in other games and do it.
Which is not true. If you had listened to the sparkasts, watched the interviews an insights on 343 industries, you would know how it’s all going.
I think biased polls should be a reason to lock threads.

What makes Halo Halo… Plan and simple…

Balanced players, no one player starts differently than another. The better player wins the majority of the time. PERIOD!
