I’ve been on the forums for what feels like ages and one of the trends that I seem to see a lot lately is that a lot of the posts that seem to get the most engagement (i.e. likes, replies, shares) are the ones where people complain about things (or are staff posts) while a good portion of the topics that aren’t structured as complaints or threads that have devolved into people insulting each other seem to get far less attention. As someone who wants to make a positive impact here on the forums while also engaging the community in a constructive manner with posts that get adequate foot traffic, I am curious about how to achieve this. Does anyone have any suggestions?
You could talk about the positive side of the latest updates and halo news but the forums are unfortunately fueled by hatred. I’m looking for the same thing as you in the positive spectrum of the platform but it’s constant and regurgitated whining that’s really circlejerking around this place.
People are overexaggarating the Mangler Nerf thats going to happen soon but easy to work around. The nerf doesn’t actually nerf the gun to oblivion, it actually adds more skill ceiling to it. 343 solved the abuse of 1 tap-slap meta usage and gave it more effort/skill to execute.
Of course, for an optimist like me, everyone is going to object and say the gun is ruined with their blissful ignorance.
Sorry, I think this is a futile pursuit. That’'s like trying to control the internet. Polling things on what people preferred or liked about previous games gets positive traction. I made a thread asking which five maps would people add to Infinite if they had the power. It did pretty well. But squeaky wheels usually get the grease.
From my experience you just never know.
You can add skill ceiling to any weapon by simply nerfing it. In previous installments if you didn’t get a direct head shot with a shotgun you would use a one tap slap tactic. It was fun to use. No one complained. I mean you’re arguing for nerfing a gun called the “Mangler.” The Mangler. Doesn’t feel like it’s mangling much of anything now. ![]()
I mean you’re not wrong about that.
I know what you mean. I’m not hoping to control the internet. I just don’t want to start creating threads that are extremely whiny, clickbait-y, unnecessary controversial, or just full of insult flinging.
I hear you. Sometimes you just need to hydrate after all the salt showers. ![]()
I’m not arguing about this change, I actually love this change because this lessens the likelihood of people knowing how to properly 1 tap-slap against me while I with the knowledge can still do it.
I was arguing on the people hating on this change, saying that 343 didn’t know what they were doing even though I’m one of the few applauding for how smart they handled the 1 tap slap meta with it even if they called it a soft fix.
There’s already a good workaround on it and I think MnK/Controller users who are dextrous in their mechanics, such as myself, will have a blast abusing it still with more muscle memory to chew on. I’m excited for this change.
This change impacts any player who are slow or inexperienced on how to 1 tap slap with more effort it’s about to require. This change will need you to be more dependent on the existing drop-tech embedded in the game.
By the way, heatwave and bulldog still 1 tap slap normally after this change, so no harm to those guns.
Fair enough. Didn’t mean to misinterpret your post. With that, I agree to your point. ![]()
Maybe you should just, you know, post in threads you find interesting, help people around, and make threads if you have something in mind that isn’t being discussed. Don’t try to manufacture engagement. Just find ways to have a good time.
Thanks for the advice! I think sometimes I just feel that my attempts to positively engage the forum community get completely drowned out by people who just start insulting one another when they disagree about things. Sometimes I think it’s hard for us to actually see the contributions we make here by looking at everything else around us.
The closest you can get on here is quasicritical discussion of what the game does right but it basically always devolves into moaning and groaning about everything bad the game does, not anything good it does. It’s unfortunate.
Satire and hypercriticism
My most popular threads are one or the other
And then it boils down to people complaining about people giving criticisms.
