What makes a "true halo fan"?

Over the past week, I was temporarily banned for an admittedly tasteless and offensive joke, so all I have been doing is reading and watching this forum. And recently with halo 5 showing very new changes, along with a regular outrage of “old school” fans, the question in my mind pooped up, as to what makes a true halo fan. Some have said it is someone who has unflinching loyalty to halo, others have said it is one who will openly criticize every game to ensure the games cater to their preferences. But what do you guts think? What do you, halo waypoint, think qualifies someone as a “true halo fan” ?

Nothing, what constitutes true fandom is subjective and depends on each person.

A halo fan is a halo fan, it doesn’t matter how you came enjoy halo it only matters that you do.

Gonna have to roll in a similar vein as the previous two replies. It’s entirely up to you, but I consider anyone that enjoys Halo to be a fan. We all enjoy it for a multitude of reasons, and we shouldn’t exclude anyone from that title as far as I’m concerned.

It’s subjuctive. Me? I consider a Halo fan to be someone who loves everything about halo with a good fanitism for the universe and story… However to your average halo joe I’m sure the answer would be multiplayer. While I might happly get into a fistfight with these halo fans… Ultimately its up to YOU what makes you a halo fan and brings out your… happy memory’s of the game etc.

Or you could just say this this…

@deception pretty much sums it up.

if you believe you are a halo fan, you are. in no way should anybody judge who is a halo fan and who is not.

All equal here my friends. We make the Halo Community. A single banner all can hold if they choose.
It doesn’t matter if you only play the games, read the books, like multiplayer, or even nothing at all. If you like halo then we will welcome you with open arms(if within the rules of course)
These forums are very diverse after all. Holding people from all around the world, different likes and dislikes. If there was qualifications to be a true Halo fan then it would be very sad to see people who like Halo not allowed to say they are a fan of something they love and like.

Agreed. We are forced into enough lables, let us self identify.

What defines a Halo fan?

  1. Hating Halo 4’s multiplayer with a passion
  2. Considering Halo 2 to be the holy grail beyond which no Halo game should ever dare to aspire
  3. Worshiping the Xbox and calling PC Halo players entitled for wanting Halo to get ported over
  4. Hearing one unconfirmed rumor about ADS in H5G then proceeding to have a nervous breakdown, threaten to quit Halo for good, and write “Halo is dead” essays all over the Internet
  5. Having a weird obsession with seeing the Arbiter nude in H2A
  6. Defending 343 for downright lazy alien designs (Yonhet, I’m looking at you)

Oh… Wait. Maybe that’s not it.

That’s better.

This is my stance up to a point.

The people being overly-dramatic and screaming “RIP HALO”, “HALO IS DEAD,” and that they hate 343 without trying to hold a decent, intelligent discussion about why they think this aren’t really fans; they’re angry kids raging against the inevitability of change. Real fans, to me, would want to provide constructive reasoning in hopes of bettering the franchise.

Some one who sticks with Halo, criticizes everything to make the game the best it can be, and plays well, not ruining the game for everyone else.

I think it means different things to different people, and really also at different times. As a 28 year old married father of 2, my time is much less spent in competitive multiplayer and more on the campaign and collecting different halo collectibles. I love the campaign and enjoy mp, but I no longer have the time to dedicate to it to really compete. To surmise a true halo fan can can come in many shapes, sizes, and varieties. Just enjoy!

Do you like Halo? Would you say you’re a fan of it? Congrats, you’re a Halo fan!

Often times people using “true Halo fan” on the forums are usually attempting to vilify those who disagree with them. “You think loadouts are good? Well you’re not a ‘true’ Halo fan.” “You don’t like everything Halo does? Well you’re not a ‘real’ Halo fan then.”

It’s a case of “I’m right and you’re wrong.”

Case and point.

You don’t agree with them and/or how they put their opinions forward, so you say they aren’t real fans.

My question to you is whether or not they would even be here posting these things if they didn’t have at least some level of care for the franchise.

Did he mean to say “pooped up " and " what do you guts think”?

There were… Typos…

Exactly! And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

We are all Halo fans, people that have purchased all the titles since H2/H3.
All on the hopefully search of regaining the feeling of a game that is at the roots competitive gaming.
Well for me anyway I have never experienced a single online competitive game that has made we want to come back over and over the way H2 and H3 did.
I’m sure this is the same for many people.

A Halo fan goes with the Mjolnir Armor to the carnival.
