What made Halo: Reach fail.

The overlooked potential of custom game options.

Even if Campaign kinda sucked, even if the multiplayer plasylists sucked, even if fricking firefight sucked, If they had an encyclopedia of custom game options then Reach could of easily been an epic Halo if not the best.

The custom game options in Reach SUCKED, the options are incredibly standard and un-inspiring additions, some features were actually REMOVED from Halo 3, Some are even BUGGED!! ( I.E. Damage modifier and melle modifiers are bined rather than seperated. EX: 110% damage modifier with 90% melle modifier will actually put the melle at 100% )

Bungie overlooked custom game options massively, off the top of my head ‘Bloom toggle on/off option’ ‘Individual weapon damage modifiers’ These two options alone would of added YEARS of playability just in customs.

Think of it this way.

If Bungie actually bothered to put something like a weapon modifier in Reach IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES.

Change a magnums mag size to 12

Remove bloom,

make it a 3 shot kill

slow down rate of fire.

BOOM, Halo 1 magnum, an actual classic mode is possible.

Custom games got shafted and was overlooked, they focused too much on matchmaking/ AA’s etc. Even if they made the worse multiplayer, if they gave us a library of option in custom games alot more people would still be playing today I guarantee you.

And don’t forget that custom gametypes can make their way into matchmaking too…

I just hope that Halo 4’s custom game options won’t get overlooked as much as Reach’s did, giving the community more tools to customise gametypes has no cons, the community themselves would keep people playing! by coming up with new and fun ways of playing the game and developers don’t hav eto do ANYTHING except just download the rules and maps and put them in a playlist.

I complety agree with you, because tbh matchmaking on halo 3 wasn’t that great, I hardly remember any specific games. What I do remember is great custom matches with a load of people who you got on with and just had a good time, not caring about k/d or stats or anything.

wow someone who gets it ::applause::

As a custom gamer, I agree with your statement.

thanks haha

I thought this would of been common sence, but although Bungie has talents it seems common sence seems to have slipped them in their most recent Halo title hehe. Cough slow paced gameplay cough

Bungie made sure every aspect of Reach sucked. Campaign, Forge (screen lag), Multiplayer, Custom Games, even the way they handled the playlists was terrible.

What made reach fail? Changing the core gameplay just for the sake of change: Slow movement, never ending kill times, bloom AAs, over-detailed forge pieces that still look like crap, making the grenades the new tool for limited noskill noobies to pick up easy kills. They should have invested their time in learning how to ship more than 9 maps on a disk or learning that spawning with camo and invincibility kills the game balance.
