For me what made halo 4 great was Swat And Spartan Ops
Halo 4 was not great . It was a pathetic attempt at trying to take CoD and put them in halo. The game play was awful. The bullet magnetism and huge aim assist in halo 4 made the skill gap very compressed. Sprint was just an illusion that ruined close quarters fights and made grenades almost useless because people just sprint right past them and the boltshot was a shotgun accessible to anyone at anytime. The campaign and spartan ops, had horribly linear gameplay. I can’t help but just disagree that halo 4 was a good game.
The campaign was the best part of Halo 4.
Almost everything in Halo 4 was great (and I’m a Halo player since CE saying this).
Chief actually got a personality, had a great plot, fun multiplayer, enjoyable spartan ops (if not just a tad bit repetitive), great spartan customization, and a different but amazing musical score.
Definitely in my top 3 favorite halos of all time.
Almost every aspect of Halo 4, if you ask me.
We got a lovely, lore inspired narrative (something Bungie largely ignored) that also had a lot of CE parallels to it. They tried something new with the multiplayer that didn’t quite appeal to a lot of older fans, but I (an older fan myself) did enjoy it, though I played it for what it was and never expected it to be like Halo 3 or anything else. It had great new game modes and introduced a lot of cool weapons and vehicles. It’s a beautiful game that brought a lot of character and insight from the books we haven’t seen in the games before.
I am glad that they’ve gone back to a more traditional approach to Arena with equal starts and power weapons on the map and such, but I still play Halo 4 because there’s a reason to: it was different.

Just out of curiosity … did you click the “Halo 4” section by accident? The game’s almost four years old now, you still popping by to tell people they’re wrong for liking it?

They gave it a look that Bungie never mastered completely. Part of that is the ranks without the money. Reach was super hard to get anything on because of all of the grades and the ridiculous prices on some of the armor. Also, while I feel that Halo is more than definitely the greatest first person shooter of all time, 343 took a good look around and said, “What do other popular games have that we don’t?” Thus the personal loadouts, which I think are genius, though they could have added more weapons to the loadout lineup.
343 also added a lot of my favorite thing from Halo. ARMOR!!! Yikes! It’s too bad though, that you have some “dead zones” if you will, where you don’t earn anything for a while.
They also gave Chief some emotion. Previously, he was only concerned about the mission at hand. In H4, John earns himself a little humanity by showing that he cares deeply about Cortana. The plot was outstanding.
By the way, I’ve heard a couple of times how it “didn’t have any actual Halo music”. That’s crap. Sure, they threw in some new stuff, but if you have ears, the original Halo music isn’t hard to find.
Halo 4 is my favorite Halo ever, but H5 might beat it if it only had 1) Splitscreen multiplayer, and 2) was available for Xbox 360.
Go 343
The sound design for one. The game itself plays smooth as water. I might be an exception but as a ‘Halo CE on the original xbox aka the fridge’ player, I still think halo 4 mp is the most gratifying and streamlined to play I think. I havent played much guardians though, I think that will be my new favorite!
Of course there were letdowns too…the campaign could have been better. I didnt like the way the story was told. I read the books later on and the Forerunner saga is actually crucial to understanding whats going on in 4 and guardians. Shutdown and Midnight were lackluster levels too and to end the campaign with a quicktime event…
BUT, to end positively, the design and feel of the game is remarkable. Dawn was such a nice Pillar Of Autumn/Cairo Station throwback and Requiem is amongst my fav halo levels ever! The campaign is full of great moments and I think 4 is a worthy edition! Glad it made the MCC.
As a dedicated campaign player, I’d say 343s intro to Halo was pretty good. Didn’t make the splash that CE did and didn’t have the satisfying theatre of H3, but its right up there. How they got those graphics out of the 360 is a pretty amazing feat in itself and of course the single console household playability was excellent. Spartan OPs with the kids and mates was a blast. They still had split screen, speed runs, par scores, you name it.
Yeah, I give her a pretty solid 7/10.

Definitely one of the best looking games on the 360

I’m an older player, no age, no pack drill but I’m the wrong side of fifty and when I started gaming, chess and pong were revelations.
LOL
I’ve watched the evolution of gaming over the years with great interest. Not much of a multiplayer at the best of times, reaction time today is shaky to say the least, hence the big attraction of story driven, immersive campaigns. Halo simply ticks all the right boxes for me and regards your earlier comment, couldn’t agree more.
I take great pleasure in well crafted animation, weapons mechanics, physics, cut scene action etc. and Halo 4 set a standard for next gen and a great farewell for the 360.

I agree with Spartan Ops especially, I always enjoyed multiplayer CO-OP, something I fear gets ignored a lot for generic horde modes. Having an actual CO OP campaign was really fun, and it was very well designed. I’ve got to go back and beat the last 5 episodes on legendary one day, along with the rest of the game.
I think that Halo 4 was great for the huge amount of game modes it has, but it was missing the gameplay

imo I enjoyed Halo 4
But I say some -Yoink- about it
