What made Argent Moon so important?

If we ever got clarification on this topic, I’ve overlooked it for months now. Halo 5’s Blue Team takes place on an ONI research station that is currently being stripped for intel and scrap. What was aboard this station that made its reclamation so vital as to allocate four spartans to the task when they could have been out fighting in events related to the forerunner/prometheans, the Janus Key, or literally anything else that is currently putting the galaxy in physical and political turmoil?

They had experiential ships aboard and there was some sort of human poison that could be used as a weapon.

Not exactly sure from playing the game alone. All I remember is some ship they were working on and that one toxic agent that was dispersed.

Perhaps this might have some info.

Hey, that’s great stuff. That almost makes me want to replay the campaign and look more thoroughly for intel.

Almost. Probably gonna look it up on youtube instead. Thanks for the response.

Well you clearly haven’t read the comics because you’d know Palmer and Majestic dealt with the Janus Key. Plus there was an experimental biological weapon being tested. Because ONI.

To be fair, I felt totally vindicated on not having bothered with the EU seeing as its main villain was killed off in a cutscene 10 minutes into the game.

So what happened was Jackals found the Argent Moon and sold it to Jul Mdama. The UNSC didn’t like that and wanted it back so they sent Blue Team. Blue Team was taking a ton of weird low profile, classified missions at the time because ONI wanted someone to do their chores if that answers your question. So when Blue Team realized they couldn’t get their toys back from a couple covenant ships they decided to blow the Argent Moon up so nobody can play with the toys. That is what the chief called “asset denial”

Basically, not even the UNSC knew what was on the Argent Moon but what ever it was they didn’t want the Covenant to have it. (Bio Weapons)

Well ONI probably knew but they didn’t bother to tell Blue Team. Also, considering the size of the enemy force they were facing, asset denial would literally have been their only choice. The blast from the reactor going off is what helped them get away, forcing or blowing up the enemy ships in the way of their Prowler.

I distinctly said the UNSC didn’t know. I know ONI probably knew what was on that ship. And I understand asset denial was the only option. Just trying to re-iterate the story for OP here.

I know this thread is mad old, but I’m interested in it Bc, the Forerunner AI Intrepid Eye, (see last light and retribution) was being kept in this facility, though she had worked her way out via forerunner ancilla abilities, h5 makes no Mention of it at all, which is weird Bc she is pulling all kinds of strings in oni since like 2553.
