Hey havnt played halo wars 2 for about a month now just wondering what leaders are good to play with have season pass but not Awaking the nightmare.
Well your game play has a lot to do with this. I prefer cutter and Jerome , just started using forge but he’s not complimenting my game style of rush fast and end it quick ha. I don’t use banished so no comment there .
Everyone is viable.
Voridus is the best.
Voridus (by far the best), Cutter, and Kinsano would be the strongest, in my opinion.
no one leader stands out as by far superior to others.
Some leaders counter other etc.
In general i think decimus is the most versatile of the leaders. His passive abilities make him very tough for any leader to handle.

You’re forgetting Serina. Her over shield wearing cryo troopers are fantastic T1 and she has amazing late game powers.

Good point. She’s certainly up there, without a doubt. But, I believe the three leaders I mentioned outclass her.
Voridus is just insane and beats everything.
Cutter’s speedy infantry and ODST’s will beat the Cryo Troopers. Additionally, I believe Cutter has better drops than Serina’s drop, and his CAS is never bad.
As for Kinsano, she’s all around strong. Early game I think both leaders are almost equal; Kinsano may have an advantage with Hell Drop, idk. Later on, Kinsano has access to solid offensive leader abilities, Redline Hogs/Hornets, and sweet drops.
Thus, I believe these leaders are above her. Serina is certainly strong, though; she’s the fourth strongest at the moment, in my opinion.
But, I’m awful, so what would I know ;).

I would give kinsano the late game advantage because of all of her drops but I think serina’s late game beats cutters because of the cryo+seismic blast combo in addition to all of the ice she throws all over the field. Raid doesn’t mean much on frozen infantry.
Hey Sad Joker95!
What makes you think that Decimus isn’t at the top? I mean, his early game is fantastic with vortex and siphon and he transitions into a very strong mid game with boundless siphon. Plus he has a very bulky hero.
I thought he could still compete with other top tier leaders, but then again I have no idea about UNSC leaders lol.
If everyone is viable, then it just depends on what your play-style is.

In my opinion, Banished isn’t really in the best spot right now. Though, besides Voridus and Shipmaster, I believe Deci is the strongest Banished leader currently.
As with other Banished leaders, they seem to struggle against Marine/Flamer balls. Suicide Grunts can do well, but with proper splitting and Grenade Throw micro, they trade almost evenly.
As for Deci himself, he’s got a few things going for him, but nothing strong enough to propel him into the higher tiers. Let’s go through it;
-his passives are a nice touch, and work very well when coupled with Banshees. But, since Banshees are paper thin and take awhile to build up, they’re only really reliable later in into the late game. Even with his buffs, a mixed army will almost always beat Banshees in the mid-early late game. Nonetheless, his passives are nice. But, not quite enough to make him top tier.
-heroes. Deci has acces to two heroes that are fairly strong. Both have high health pools and solid Y abilities, especially with Decimus himself. The thing about there heroes, though, is that they can mostly be ignored. Other than their Y abilities, they’re not that much of a threat. Simply focusing down an army before the heroes will win most skirmishes with Deci
-early game. Deci has a strong early game with his kit, but with the recent nerfs to Vortex, along with all the buffs to UNSC early game… I don’t believe Deci really competes.
Those are, in my opinion, the strongest points of Deci, but I don’t feel any of them are really strong enough to grant him top tier status.
Deci also has some issues that hold him back.
-
He sucks at breaking bases. Deci has no abilities that help him break a base in the late game. Cutter has CAS, Ship has displacement, Trox has unbreakable + Bulwark + Dying breath (excellent with Locust), while Deci doesn’t really haven’t anything like that. His base breaking potential is awful.
-
He’s predictable. Most Decimus players do the exact same thing; Banshees. This may be a coincidence, but most Deci players love to use them Banshees. It’s predicable and easy to counter.
-
Lack of offensive leader abilities. Other than Glassing Beam, which is a little better now, and Vortex, Deci has no real offensive leader abilities. Those aren’t bad, but don’t compare to Inferno, Napalm Missiles, Erad, etc. This puts him at a disadvagabge during skirmishes against leaders who do have acces to strong abilities. Additionally, the abilities he does have are manual (require you to control them), this takes the user out of combat, and puts their army at risk.
Okay, I think that’s everything.
Thanks for reading, and I hope I answered your questions!
EDIT: forgot to mention, this is 100% my opinion. Take it how you please.

Decimus’s warlord is a hero killer.
His vortex power weakens the defence of a base and with boundless siphon whatever youre hitting it will will last longer and do more damage to a base over a longer time. Have you every tried locust with fury? it melts bases.
He is also very good with infantry!

Almost everything you just said is extremely situation, or other leaders do better.
Your points;
- I assume you’re speaking of the Warlord when you say “hero killer”. Sure, he can do well against just a hero, but that’s about it. He has very poor damage output, and moreover, is a melee here. Jerome, Atriox’s Chosen, and Pavium are examples of heroes that offer fair more DPS and versatility.
-Vortex isn’t a bad ability, and it’s nice to have, but it isn’t a game changer. After the ten minute mark, it’s a pretty “meh” ability. As for dropping a base, it did extremely situation when that would help, usually it helps in the early game.
-Boundless Siphon is an awesome ability all around. Nothing I can argue there
-I wouldn’t ever recommend getting fury; it’s a pretty poor ability. I would take/upgrade Siphon, Glassing Beam, Deci drop, and all the passive before picking fury. Also, Ship, Arby, and Trox all have better Locust
-Ship has better infantry than Decimus by a significant margain. The Siphon helps, but it’s not that noticeable.
At least in my opinion as of now almost every leader is in a good spot. YapYap is the only one I’m sure needs a buff and I’m not completely sure but I think Arby might need a slight one.
Right now in the games current state, you must play Palvion or Voridus with Vordi having a major starting advantage while still having a strong late game offense as well. Same is true for Palvion but his early game presence is strong to all leaders but Voridus.
All of them are good in their own ways, they all have leader powers that can prove useful in your matches. Shipmaster can teleport units away, YapYap can stop fighting all across the battlefield for almost half a minute, Atriox has a devastating final power that destroy everything in its way, Anders utilizes sentinels annoyingly well, Decimus can make all his units slowly regenerate health, Cutter can drop all kinds of units, Pavium can build mega turrets and send a lich to hover on a certain spot… so much that each leader can use. I’d suggest you play around with some of them in Skirmishes so you can try out army combos and see for yourself.
Not that others haven’t stated this already. But I think every leader can be useful in the game. It really just depends on your style of gameplay and what you want to have done by a certain amount of time. I prefer Jerome. Sometimes I find myself using Cutter or Anders. Never really bothered with the banished. One day I’ll have to though.

Thank you for the detailed answer!
You definitely have valid arguments. Decimus’ passives and early game are great, but he lacks offensive leader powers and the potential to apply pressure late game. And as you said, his actions are predictable. His banshees are arguably the best in the game. I mained him for a while in 1v1 and always transitioned into banshees, but it has gotten too risky with the recent overuse of air units.
I’m not too sure about his hero unit though. He lacks in comparison to Pavium or Atriox but he’s still very tanky and his hammer pull and Y ability are great for picking off enemies and keeping the enemy army busy.
