What language should the Covies speak in Halo 4?

Naturally, the two choices are between English (as in all Halos except Reach) or made up alien languages (Reach).

Personally, I loved listening to the funny things grunts would say in Halo 3 with the IWHBYD skull on, an experience I missed in Reach. The marines just were not picking up the slack. Which is why I say Halo 4 should have the Covies speak English.

The Reach Covies (no English) sounded pretty cool, but it sort of faded into the background. I could take it or leave it. In the other Halos it was a lot of fun to listen for the funny lines that could happen when you played.

I mean, Poonflip. 'Nuff said.

But this is just my opinion. What do you think about it?

Covie… In halo 4… Doubt it very much.

I don’t think covies will be in halo 4 (Except maybe aribter) but otherwise I think the covenant is done for.

the covenant or any other aliens that appear in Halo 4 should deffinately not speak english. they need there own language so we don’t know what there saying. This is what made Halo 1 so good, the way the elites roared at you. It felt scary.

There is no Covenant anymore. Every species is doing there own thing now. No species has the resources to go snooping around a giant Forerunner sphere in the middle of nowhere in the galaxy.

The elites speak english backwards.

If we see any of the Covenant species in Halo 4 they will be speaking English, unless of course Johns translator has been broken or there isn’t one in the new armor (wherever he gets it from) both of which I kind of doubt.

It obviously survived atmospheric reentry and crashing in to the earth with the rest of the suit in Halo 3 so breaking sounds unplausible and seeing how Humanity is Allied with the Sangheili(elites) and the rest of the Covenant Separatist not having a translator would be pretty stupid.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: until you can provide irrefuatable evidence pertaining to when Halo 4 takes place, this argument (and any other argument for or against their appearance) is invalid. We don’t know anything yet, for all we know Glasslands and the trilogy it starts could explain why they’re in Halo 4. We cant jump to conclusions.

Piglatin!

Remember that Dr. Halsey said that the Prophets spoke to the Humans when they first met in english, because they have studied them. The only way an Alien can speak English in Halo 4, is that the Alien (Or Ex Covy, or whatever) had been on any of the other Halo games, like the Arbiter, the Shipmaster, and/or the Thirsty Grunt, for example.

Or maybe a Forerunner that had been watching humanity for a long time. (Or they could read your mind, for all i care, i mean, they are Forerunners)

Some of the Elites know english from interpreting human communications and whatnot during the war, it’s mentioned in the first chapter of Glasslands.

Either way, the majority of the Covenant population knows little to no English. How do we even know Grunts or other Covenant species are able to speak with human-like vocal cords? U.S./English troops landing on Omaha Beach weren’t speaking German.

Sorry, but no “Purple” in Halo 4. And the language they would speak is Wortese. Wort Wort Wort. Wort Wort.

Because they did in Halo 1, 2, 3, and ODST. And because Halsey said that the Prophets talked in english in their first transmission.

Actually most times we hear we as John hear any Covenant speak English it’s due to translators, some can speak English but their probably not a majority.

Here is what the halo wiki entry for english says

> UNSC translation software has been able to decrypt a number of Covenant languages, most notably those of the Grunts, Elites, and Prophets. By the time of the Battle of Earth, this software could automatically interpret everything the other races said, and has apparently been installed in the equipment of all UNSC military personnel, as all personnel appear to have the ability to understand what members of these races are saying. This is the reason that Grunts, Elites, Brutes, and Prophets heard in Halo 2 seem to be speaking English. Some of the members of the Covenant know how to speak English, mainly Elites and Grunts.

How elites would actually be able to speak English with their mouths is beyond me, either way, the reason we can understand the covenant species in all games but Reach is due to translators. These translators also explain how in CE John is called Devil by the Covenant but in 2 and 3 they use Demon :stuck_out_tongue:

We know Halo 4 takes place shortly after Halo 3…

can someone tell me who said there will be no purple?

The Return states the Elites were losing their ships and had no way to replace them because the Prophets were the ones who knew the secrets to creating their technology. If the Elites have no way to rebuild their ships or maintain them, I can’t imagine any other species would either. And that is what I said, they don’t have the RESOURCES to be snooping around some unknown, mysterious sphere in the middle of nowhere.

Maybe you need to improve your reading comprehension.

Many things happened between the 3 years John was in cryo sleep. Who knows what mysteries will be lurking in the shadows…

ahem… humans have been able to create, manipulate forerunner/covenant technology into their own starships (an example being the UNSC infinity), who says that human beings didn’t figure out a way to maintain covenant ships.
