Free Roam but make much more expansive. Despite ODST being Free Roam, it was a very enclosed (but enjoyable experience). I have a feeling that idea is being played around with for Halo 4.
> Maybe if we can choose what way we want to finish a mission like do you want to go that way or the other way? or maybe do you want to destroy the structure or see whats inside? Or a more understandable example, do you want to use the air type vehicle or the ground type?
>
> There should be campaign maps that are bigger so we can explore a bit more but also have the classic corridor wondering missions.
Multiple directions and paths? niiiiice…
Missions should be longer, maps should be more Open and made for exploration and tactics, since the Chief might have to be alone most of the time, there should be ways for him to approach the enemy nicely, like, you could choose to enter Guns Blazing, taking the Stealthy way, or just skip that portion of the map and go to another one, like you could do in “Halo”, from CE; you could choose in which order you could rescue the marines, for example.
I hope for a Campaign that will bring ME to a place where I feel astounded and amazed by the view. A view that I will always remember for a very long time.
Only 5 places have given me this feeling…
The Deterioting Scaffolding = Halo 3
Lucky 38 Viewtop = Fallout: New Vegas
Halo = Halo: Combat Evolved
Viery Territory = Powerhouse (Halo: Reach)
Cyrodill = Oblivion
If Halo 4 can send me to a place like this then I will be truely outstanded. It would be like a place of Heaven for me
I want a campaign where you can take several approaches towards different enemies/objectives throughout the campaign. If they include choices like pick either point A or point B have that affect the game, like having the second area being more heavily guarded or less. Also I wouldn’t mind free roam but it’s not needed to have it to the extent of ODST assuming there isn’t one giant level.
While I want the story itself to progress in a linear fashion, I want each mission to contain a massive amount of freeroam capability. With alot of rewards for exploration.
Also, PLEASE starve players who don’t go looking around for ammo. It would be nice to be rewarded for finding “That out-of-the-way cache of Magnum ammo” instead of feeling more like “Oh, cool, there’s a random magnum here. How pointless”
I would love a long in depth story, with new characters and old and like halo 2 play has other important characters throughout the campaign. All with unique back stories and abilities.
I would also love to be able to explore on the missions which will reward and benefit you… e.g. skulls, flags, recordings, dog tags, enemy intel etc…
I think it would be suicide for them to not go with the “missions” structure for their first true Halo game (not to say CEA isn’t a true Halo game, I love it, but its not 343’s, just the graphics are
). They have to keep it simple for Halo 4. Thats not to say we shouldn’t see more exploration, in fact, the concept art seems to imply we will. So basically, no to free roam (for now) but yes to exploration.
What comes to gameplay, I hope the campaign to be long. Although I don’t see how free roam could be done without concentrating on a very small area, I have nothing against it. Personally I would prefer a semi-linear experience with just more routes to encounters and objectives, something that Bungie said Reach would be, but we never really got that kind of experience. Anyway, I would like to choose from many different routes.
By different set of routes I mean routes designed for different types of gameplay styles: hidden shortcuts for speedrunners, beautiful, “scenic routes”, ability to choose between vehicle and on foot, ability to sneak in/through. Lots of different ways to complete the mission. By hidden I didn’t mean literally hidden, but routes that are visible, but you just don’t think them in normal gameplay or routes that you can’t see from normal positions.
I would also like to see the levels being explorable. Who here has ever played on Tsavo Highway? Yeah, probably everyone. Who here has always wanted to be able to run above the normal gameplay area on the hills? I still believe everyone will answer positively. Good example is Outskirts in Halo 2, the rooftops aren’t easily achieveable and you won’t realize very well that you can get there, but once you get there it’s super fun to explore.
Of course there is a reason why routes are usually blocked by invisible walls, the reason is that developers don’t want for some reason to show the low quality areas, possibly because it could break the immersion. But really? Let’s stop for a while and think about it. Those places aren’t usually easily accesible and require pretty innovative routes, a player who wants to keep the immersion will never try to get there. And who actually gets bothered from seeing low quality textures outside the playable area. This is why we should be able to explore outside the normally playable area, of course it wouldn’t be easy, but developers need to realize this is fun for the players and doesn’t bother anyone.
Then collectibles. Skulls are already confirmed in CEA, I assume they are going to be in Halo 4 too. And I really do hope that they are as collectibles in Halo 4, they’re just so fun to look for while exploring the map. But skulls aren’t really only collectable thing. Halo 2 had Scarab Gun, who here would like two of those (or of similar purpose) in Halo 4 as collectables, and when both collected, you could enable them in the same menu as skulls and spawn with them at the start of the level? I know I would. They would of course be super hard to reach, (something like the IWHBYD in Halo 2, but with more jumping (launching?)).
Halo Reach introduced us to data pads, my only problem with them was that I actually only had one chance to read them and if I wanted to read them again I needed to go back and find them. This combined with the somewhat boring campaign of Reach lead me to just read them on Halopedia. Anyway, they should appear in some kind of menu when collected, very much like Sadies story in ODST.
Lastly, of course the campaign needs an immersive story and to look beutiful. I personally didn’t like Reach because it looked boring, sad, ugly, grey, and depressive. Only really beautiful skybox, that you won’t get bored to was the space section on Long Night of Solace. In previous Halo games nearly every skybox has been astonishingly beautiful, I want this to return. I will probably be pretty happy if Halo 4 looks somewhat similar to CEA, maybe with one shade less brightness on colors and with gigantic and mysterious Forerunner structures.
I don’t have much about the story, just if it’s anything on the level of Halo 2, I will probably be pretty happy about it.
> if they can put it together good, id like to see a huge vast map, maybe like falout 3 but in the wild with vast jungles, and you can use all the stuff on the ship you crashed with for supplies, and there a odst kind of map to guide you around, this would only be super amazing if they did it exactly right, i am ready to get rained with thats not halo comments but it would make campainge fun for more than one play threw
hater gonna hate
i hate "thats not halo " comments do u really think the iphone isnt a phone no it evolved t
like tha word i suppose to to and its time halo gorws up int to somthing just because it seems differnt doesnt mean its not halo its tha same it just harder better faster stronger
I think that one thing they need to do is make it much harder on Legendary. Seems like either I’ve gotten better at Halo or Halo has gotten easier. (Although probably a combo of the two…) But then there’s always Mythic…>:D
> Like the title suggests, Are you hoping for a straight forward story like all the others (except ODST), maybe a free-roam, or somthing different?
>
> I’m thinking its obvious the are going with a straight forward story but hey, i could be wrong. What do you all think?
One when you gan fly and you are invincible
I would personally like one that is fairly strait forward with just multiple options or routes to get to the destination. Similar to what other people said with choosing air or land, or foot or vehicle. Imagine New Alexandria with all the buildings connected by highways. So you could drive a warthog through the highway and have enemy ground forces (with infantry as well as shades, ghosts and maybe wraiths) or you could choose to fly around and engage banshees and the shades.
I think it would interesting to see Halo as an rpg, kind of like how Elder Scrolls and Fallout are.
A campaign were you can explore everywere and a sense of mystery that grows and grows. Like ODST but a bigger world. I would like that.
Honestly, we have had everything we could ever want from all of the Halo campaigns. Each of them brought another chapter to the gamer’s Halo experience and the books brought more information then I could want, but there is one thing I would like to see for the next (Halo 4) campaign: anyone that has read the books all know that the Gravemind has connections deeper then even the Forerunners knowledge base. Why is that? What did the forerunners accomplish besides Halo to get near enough to be able to mark and begin communications with the previous Graveminds? This is something I’d like to play and find out. What are the secrets that the Gravemind has? How far does his knowledge and experience go? So my kind of campaign would be of:
-
Awaken and get the bearings right. Remembering what MC did to get that far and what his mission could be now that he is potentially stranded. This could be a mix of a crashed ship (CQC environments) to the open terrain trying to find a signal beacon or even set one up and hold the rally point till anything can be done. If he’s unsure of what to do, time to Lone wolf it around in a potential Free-Roam atmosphere. Who’s to know till Halo 4 comes out…
-
After finding or locating any possible leads, have either a plot twister involving forerunner facility taken over by dormant flood or have a grand awakening of the planet (shield world door opening, etc.) to discover either friend or a new threat. This would definately fall under an open field battlefield fighting the odds to get inside the primary open zone and find the source of the problem (mid-range to long range “Ark” run is what I’m seeing) or to reinforce new allies, etc… Either way, This would end a free-roam possibility and focus us down a main storyline to something possibly hiding in the shadows, watching us, testing us, etc., heck, maybe a new or the old Graveminds left remnants in case of Halo firing…
I’m just going to leave it at that, there is so many possibilities out there its almost too many to write down. the easy way to put my answer? Just give me a gun and something challenging to shoot. That’s all.
Considering Halo4 includes the anti gravity pack that chief has maybe there could be missions like the first level where all of a sudden everything gets dramatic and there is no time to grab a gun but instead you see chiefs arms as you try to grab on to things in order to get around them or to change direction as you try to get the hell out of some spot for some reason. There would probably have to be something chasing you like gravemind’s tentacles or some new enemy or explosions and definitely some epic music in the back ground to really get an epic moment.
Maybe they can mix a little of both free roam and straight forward. Judging by the concept art it looks like Halo 4 is going to have some pretty big structures and rural areas with a lot of space, but I could be wrong. Hopefully whatever they do with it the outcome will be EPIC and FUN!!!
I just want there to be more than 9 missions.
Im hoping for a BRAND NEW style of campaign. I dont want to wait 1 year and spend 60 bucks for the same game. -_-
