What kind of BR do you Want?

Premise is simple: I see so many BR threads and everyone is wanting it to be buffed saying its too weak. I’m curious exactly what role you want the BR to play in the game.

God BR: One gun to rule them all (think halo 1 pistol).

True Utility BR: Jack of all trades master of none. Good enough in most situations that you don’t really need anything else, but not the best in every situation.

Niche BR: BR, like the other precision weapons, has its own niche range that it is best at, but is still viable at the others in skilled hands.

Clone BR: Functionally exactly the same as the other utility weapons, making it a preference based mainly on appearance.

Incidentally I’m leaning towards the Niche BR, which incidentally is what 343 currently has planned for it (Doesn’t mean i think its 100% good yet though).

In-between True utility and niche because I would like other weapons to serve their purpose as well, but more lenient towards true utility.

I went for niche. We don’t want a gun which dominates all in the sandbox. That would be stupid. But having a useless weapon is stupid as well. I hope 343i can balance it correctly before release date. We don’t want a OP or UP Battle Rifle.

The way I see it, there is a reason why the BR is a 5-shot instead of a 4-shot. The whole BR vs. DMR thing is really a choice between capability vs. reliability.

The DMR will beat the BR in all facets of game, but only if you’re good with it. If you can’t handle pacing your shots then going with the more reliable BR is a must. However, the DMR isn’t as powerful as you would think. The new faster pacing of the game compared to previous titles is really going to make pacing your shots more difficult than it was in Reach.

The thing is, they have to give people a reason to use the DMR over the BR otherwise everyone would be going in with the BR every match b/c it’s easier to use. Making the BR weaker than the DMR makes up for that. It’s capability vs. reliability.

i just want a 4 shot multiplayer BR. I’m not even the worlds biggest BR fan but watching the multiplayer gameplay it just seems wrong.

I would fall in between true utility and niche but I don’t know why it can’t be a 4 shot as all available data indicates it would be right in line with the other utilities with the Carbine still in the lead in terms of killtimes.

I would rather see the rof adjusted than the damage as it just goes the the BRs personality. It is not inherently sacred that all weapons like it must be a 4 shot. The DMR has its own personality with 5 shots so why bother bringing the BR are back if you take away one of its core parts of its identity

I also don’t buy it being weaker because it is “easier” because that is how we end up with useless weapons especially auto weapons and the most “skillful” weapon ending up being one of the easiest because nothing is designed to compete with it. Rather than finding ways to increase a weapons skill gap that would be the lazy way and just nerf what people deem the “easy” weapons

one that dosen’t make the AR and the DMR pieces of crap that shoot peas at my enemies

i mix of the halo 2 and 3 BR would be great

So much this^^^^

And this^^^^

A niche BR would work better with Halo 4’s system.

Starting with a primary weapon that doesn’t excel at any given range is a little pointless.

Niche BR.

There isn’t a 4-shot BR option? For the Halo 2 fanboys?

A strong utilitarian weapon.

Buff the other weapons around it.

What ever makes me want to use it more then anything ELSE.

Thats what i pick

Now, I’m no expert in game design or balance, but if there is a BR that people want to use more than a Rocket Launcher or Sniper Rifle or Shotgun, I think it’d be just the tiniest bit OP, wouldn’t you?

Niche. Most guns have a wide array of things it can do when in the right hands. The problem I have is anyone can pick up the Halo 3 BR and with a little practice could be expert at it. the Halo 4 BR is going to test people further to master its capabilities.

Or it’s just fun to use.

Nah, I’m going with overpowered.

Which is why you were a commander grade 3?

Come on now

Utility, I really don’t want to play a game of rock-paper-scissors.

BR as the utility. Getting beaten by the DMR at long range due to its spread, and beaten by the Carbine up close due to its rate of fire. Not beaten by much, but just enough that a good BR user can stand toe-to-toe with a DMR. It should be able to cover every range comfortably, but specialty weapons are there to fill in where the BR lacks.

Of course, all 3 would be equal at mid range, with the Br beating the Carbine further away, and the DMR defeated by the BR up close.
