Imagine if Chief followed Halsey over to the Covenant. As many people guess, Chief may be in search of a way to get Cortana back. Halsey, now working with the covenant and Jul 'Mdama, has a ton of knowledge on how Cortana works, as well as half of the key that shows all the forerunner tech (which Cortana is partly). They key could be what helps Chief find Cortana. That switch could also bring a major plot twist in halo, imagine actually fighting other spartans, or even Chief withing the campaign (depending on which side you would end up playing on).
I am not certain if 343 would do this to the halo series thoguh, it is a pretty big change. Please leave your comments below!

This. Although I’m not sure if it’s entirely related to any imprinted Gea yet. For now, with all of the chaos and conflict going on between the factions, he’ll feel he’ll have to go somewhere to find a solution to this without the UNSC’s support. He’s probably doing this for the good of humanity as a whole right now as that’s consistent with his beliefs. But perhaps when he encounters a major figure like Halsey, Gravemind or Mendicant Bias, his goals will become more personally-oriented as his character is further developed in the games – for better or worse.
Man I would feel so betrayed if Chief sided with the Covies.
