I feel like I should know this… but I don’t. Is this the Halo ring we are on? What makes it important? Is it the ring the Spirit of Fire created? What?
Zeta halo is istallation 07, from what I know it’s the most mysterious halo ring. Its not confirmed that this is the ring they’re on in infinite but it is possible.
Zeta halo otherwise know installation 07 was part of the original halo array. It is/was home to a population of ancient humans being studied by the forerunners, in an attempt to cure the Flood. It is located in the Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way galaxy. It is the Halo ring that Halo Infinite takes place on. It is also the location of the palace of pain which was used by the forerunners to study humanity in a failed attempt to find a cure to the Flood
Also the halo ring Shown in Halo Wars 2 is installation 09 meant to replace installation 04 or alpha halo which was destroyed at the end of Halo CE

To my knowledge, Installation 07 (Zeta Halo) is one of the last 30,000 km rings created by the Greater Ark which was destroyed. Eventually, Zeta Halo was reduced from 30,000km to 10,000km due to sustaining heavy damage. There’s a wealth of lore on the ring and I mean a wealth that fans will enjoy.

How did it sustain heavy damage?
Zeta Halo is one of the twelve original Halo rings from the time of the Forerunner war against the flood. It has flood research facilities on it where flood are held in captivity.

That is due to a war back when the forerunners were still around. There is info on it in Greg bears books as well as in I want to say hunters in the dark which has humanity on it looking for it’s control room but I could be mistaken on some of those details

So it coincidentally sustained heavy enough damage to be in the same kilos as the other Halo rings?

Its Installation 07, the installation that was used as a Flood research facility where ancient humans were tortured and essentially fed to the Flood while they were testing Humans for their “at the time” unknown immunity the Forerunners were convinced the Humans had to the Flood infection.

No we have only been to installation 04 05 08 in ce 2 and 3 respectively.
We have also been to 00 or the ark that is all to my knowledge I haven’t played halo wars 2 but I think that’s mostly on the ark. Oh and we see another halo but don’t visit it in halo 4 not sure which tho
So that is 4 has seen but one is a replacement so 3 of 7 zeta should bring that to 4 of 7 plus one of I think 2 arks (lesser and greater)

Okay now I’m confused. What was the point of the Halo ring at the end of Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2.
Considering that in canon Zeta Halo has flood research facilities with flood in confinement. If the flood don’t make a return it will be a massive missed opportunity.
Imagine a few big open areas with a day/light/weather cycle and vehicles fighting flood and Banished. Maybe there could be a moment in the story where the Banished and UNSC have a momentary truce to try and combat the flood…
But I doubt 343 have thought this much into the story. They don’t strike me as original thinkers.

In Halo Wars 2 we go to Installation 09, which is now floating in space somewhere.
