What is your Unpopular Halo opinion?

The “Utility Weapon” role shouldn’t exist at all. It takes away from map design and varied playstyles.
Infinite is pretty good in that regard.

Unpopular opinion: Halo 4 wasn’t that bad.

Follow up unpopular opinion: Halo 4 had the best Spartan customization hands down.

Now I will explain my opinions.

Halo 4 wasn’t that bad because the story was actually pretty decent even though some of the character decisions don’t make that much sense. Specifically Captain Del Rio’s decisions did not make sense as he was being overly aggressive and seemingly incompetent. Also the reaction of everyone else to just let Chief be insubordinate, not follow orders and then apparently go full-on mutiny against Del Rio is basically impossible in real military. That was my only real issue with the campaign. Multiplayer however had the issue of destroying the fair starts system that Halo has had since the beginning. If you were to remove the loadout system do fair starts and change armor abilities to be on map pickups instead of things you spawned with then the game actually played pretty good and this is typically how I played it in custom games with friends. I specifically made maps to play for a more classic style game and we had a lot of fun with Halo 4.

Now as far as the customization goes I will say that most of it did not look amazing, but I’m not talking about the individual pieces and how they looked. I’m talking about your options to customize. Helmet, chest, legs, arms, each shoulder and visor. This was so much better than reach’s customization because you could actually make the most individualized Spartan possible. You essentially could tailor the entire suit top to bottom and make them your own. Going forward I was expecting to get even more customization options such as being able to customize each individual section such as the hands, forearm, feet, calves, knees, thigh, chest plate and back plate. We of course did not get this, instead we got the crappy system in 5 that only allowed you to do your helmet, visor and then an armor set which was absolute garbage. Infinite has now gone back to Reach’s level of customization plus a little extra, but in my opinion it still doesn’t really meet the same level of customization from 4. If/when they ever do cross-core customization we might actually get there, but until then Halo 4 is in my opinion the best customization system in the entire series hands down.

I like the Banished a lot even in Infinite where they’re kinda nerfed, the creation and success of Iratus proves the Banished can do things the Covenant couldn’t or wouldn’t- like making sophisticated AI, since Covenant AI was much more simplistic and only intended for extremely basic tasks.

Like I’ll always miss fighting the Covenant, but I like the Banished a lot and I think they’re the next logical step after the Covenant- ditch the worship and idolization, keep the warmachines and refine them.

Not to mention the Jiralhanae really flourish compared to in the Covenant, they make way better weapons and machinery than they used to and are learning new tricks at a terrifying rate.

Tis the end times, the unravelling hast begun

20 characters still required

I think the hatred towards Spartan IVs is because 343 portrayed them as fratboy-ish and just a downright liability. Compare that to the calm and fierce Master Chief or Noble Team and they honestly look like a caricature in comparision.

It was part of 343’s vision in Halo 4 to make Spartans seem more ‘human’ and relatable but the writing in Halo 4 made them seem just down right stupid and unfitting with the rest of the character set. Spartan IVs could have been great but they missed the mark badly.

EDIT

To add to this, as I just remembered.

Watch the Spartan Ops cut scene with Fireteam Majestic. They try and hit on Commander Palmer and on top of that there’s a following cut scene where they run into battle against Prometheans without a care and the squad ends up getting roasted.

Compare that to the likes of Chief, Six… heck even Red Team (in Halo Wars) and it’s just laughable.

Here’s what I assume will be a wildly unpopular decision.

I think making Infinite’s multiplayer free to play was the right decision. I think if they required the full game purchase the player base would not have been big enough to compete with other AAA online shooters going forward.

Now due to how a whole bunch of other things played out the player base has tanked anyway but I don’t think that can be blamed exclusively on the decision to go F2P.

Reach and H5 are the best multiplayer
