With all that has been released on Halo 5 so far and the release date approaching, there has been a lot of people feeling disappointment, whether it’s about the visuals, the new Spartan Abilities, the lack of day 1 community features, a lot of which are confirmed to come in the coming months. Everyone is seeing the “halo is dead” or “343 ruined halo” etc. and I know a lot of them are trolls, I get that, but there are many who really feel that way, that Halo 5 isn’t a “true” Halo. So I decided to leave this here:
For me a true Halo game is about the overall experience. I say that, because a lot of people condemn this game solely because of either the multiplayer(sprint, Spartan abilities),or visual changes(Spartan armor, weapon, vehicle, map designs), or even the way the campaign is progressing(the idea of team locke being there in the first place wtf(yes, I’ve seen that)). But for me, the way it looks so far and the way it’s building up to me it feels no different than going from one Halo game to another in the past. Updated visuals, new weapons, tweaked mechanics, a developing and compelling story.
To me, it’s about the BR fights, the struggle to get the power weapons, that authentic feeling of accomplishment when I get a Kill-tacular mid-game, the look of the Spartans, the environment, the warthog Team-play, throwing the flag toward my base and getting killed as the flag drops 2 centimeters from ours, the satisfaction of wiping out aliens, the necessary stealth you need in key points in levels, the non-linear element of the levels and all the hidden goods(skulls and now in 5 - alternate routes), the custom games… And so far I have seen all that in what footage has been released on H5(mostly from RUL), so it’s kind of confusing to me what people don’t like about it.
Don’t get me wrong I agree with the legit criticism on the lack of split-screen, and day 1 forge etc. but I still see split-screen as a post launch update despite 343 not talking about it. It’s doable.
So the point of this entire post was to ask this simple thing - what is YOUR true Halo? And I don’t mean which title, I mean which elements of the Halo experience define the game for you?
