What is your reaction to Marty O’Donnell not returning for Halo 4?

My opinion: he was a legendary composer, I love his music. But 343 is making Halo very brand-new. Master Chief has new armour, a new storyline with new events and characters and the like, gameplay and soundtrack. Bungie does not work on Halo anymore, it’s 343. And so I think it makes sense for us to be on Halo Waypoint, not Bungie. Everything is new. They have a new approach to Halo 4. I think Halo 4 will be pretty awesome, and a fresh new spin on the series and I think that the replacement composer will be very good as well. Maybe not as good as O’Donnell but I am sure the new music will be very nice. What do you guys think?

IMO the music has declined since Halo 2. That electric guitar intro will forever be in my heart. Not to mention the H2 lobby music was better.

My reaction is as follows: why were people so surprised that Marty wasn’t returning? He works at Bungie, he’s not a contracted composer.

Well because, we haven’t seen much Halo games without Marty’s music. And wow, I see you in a lot of Forums lol.

I’m very excited to see what a different composer can bring to the Halo Universe. It’s time we get something new and fresh with a new trilogy.

“Meh” was my answer.

Especially after his inferior work in Reach. The Reach soundtrack had some extremely repetitive music that played the same notes over and over again, not to mention most of the tracks were just remixes of each other. It didn’t offer very much.

The trilogy will forever be his best work. ODST’s was good, though.

Yeah, he was the composer for every Bungie made title, but all these game sites were going “OMG!!!11 Marty’s not returning!!!” It was hilarious and puzzling. Like I said, Marty’s a Bungie employee, not a contact composer, so it just caught me off guard when sites were making a big deal out this.

And yeah, I like to be active. I keep waypoint open while I work.

I don’t think it’s possible to form an opinion until we hear the final Halo 4 soundtrack. Right now, Marty has six Halo games to his name, and Tojima has none; any comparison at this stage is going to be wholly unfair.

Now we know who to thank for the downfall of the global economy

Marty has five, being Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST and Reach. Keep in mind that Tojima is the audio director and not the composer. Whoever is going to be composing the music for Halo 4 is currently unknown.

They need to get David Wise to do the soundtrack he can make anything fit. <3

He would be the best of choices, the man’s a musical genius.

And Marty was the audio director for the Halo games. Tojima is the composer for Halo 4. This was made clear back in august during Halo fest.

Damn, I always thought it was Bush…

Right you are. I don’t know how I came to the wrong total, considering that I ticked the titles off on my fingers as I counted them. Back to school for me.

> I’ve been found out! Quick, onto phase 3!

It’s as if the world has suddenly become letterboxed and the phrase “Wait, it gets worse…” is floating in front of my eyes.

Marty’s composing never flaws me in any of the halo games.

But for the other compoosers:
halo wars was all right at most times. a bit dull.
Halo legends had 3 or 4 amazing tunes and the rest were cheesey pieces of turd that sounded like a school band.

I did. What about it?

Angel says that Halo 4’s composer hasn’t been revealed yet.
