What is your opinion on the Soundtrack?

Hey everyone I wanted to share with you my thoughts on what I thought of each of the samples given to us on the 8-22-12 bulletin. If you haven’t gone to the bulletin yet please do so by clicking here before reading on because what I explain does contain spoilers.

Halo 4 Original Soundtrack

Awakening OST:

The piano really helps set the mood and then when the rest of the orchestra comes in it really picks up and at like 1:19 it makes me feel like your in an intense battle. Maybe this is when the ship is going down.

Ascendancy OST:

This is probably going to be the background music for when your going through the waves of enemies who board the ship and you must find a way out. I love the way it starts all electronic in the beginning and then the orchestra comes in to add a different tone to it and it gets that adrenaline rush type sounds like “Oh no we’re gonna crash, brace yourself”.

Revival OST:

This one is a bit different, but has that traditional Halo sound with the vocals tied in with the orchestra. This could song could go in many directions. One that I think could be when you arrive on the planet Requirm you could see a flash back of the Forerunners or it shows Master Cheif exploring an area of the planet and then zooms out and pans down while doing a birds eye view of the planet showing the nature and structures that are a part of the planet. Then when it reaches 1:18 you hear the prometheans growl and it zooms back onto Master Cheif.

To Galaxy OST:

This one has me thinking that this is when you get off the planet and are off to your next mission. It could also be the intro to Halo 4 or it could be when you get a more detailed story about the enemies because at 0:51 it gets a bit of a heavier tone mixed with the light tone and holds that tone until the end.

Halo 4 Remix Soundtrack

Awakening Remix:

I like the beat and the medium high sound, but it then gets better at 0:48 because it drags in the sounds from the OST track and ties these two together. Then at 1:19 it puts your mind into that “tapping to the beat” motion. Then slows down pretty nicely at 1:50. I like this song because its not heavy with the electronic features and has the orchestra elements within it. Very soothing.

Beauty of Cortana:

This one starts off very slow and calm, but has a very dark feeling to it which is interesting if you know the history of Cortana. But then picks up with a guitar and drums at 0:57 and makes you want to do some air guitar or head bang lol. It still has that dark feeling to it, but if you like rock music you will enjoy this.

Ascendancy Remix:

This one has more of that electronic feel to it. Something you hear in a action Sci-Fi movie like “Total Recall” or “Men In Black”, etc. It just has that adrenline sound to it to where it makes you think you are invincible and can take on anyone. Very great stuff.

Haven:

This sounds like a something you would hear in Prince of Persia. It has a lady singing some form of calm lyrics, while the background music is a calaboration of different sounds such as water dripping, pottery smashing, flutes and more. It is very soothing, but is a required taste for some since it is very slow and the lyrics she is singing aren’t easy to make out. But if you close your eyes you can easily let your mind wonder.

Revival Remix:

This sounds like going to a church or something and having a choir singing. Then at 0:28 it adds a clapping / drum beat together and then at 0:58 the singing stops and you can hear all the loveable instruments for a few seconds. At 1:20 the singing comes back and dubstep is then introduced which really makes this song worth listening to. I love the use of dubstep in this song, but as the song gets closer to ending everything slowly cancels out until its just instruments playing.

To Galaxy Remix:

This song is mostly dubstep, but at 0:57 it brings in the original OST track without the dubstep and at 1:28 it slowly brings its back in. So if you’re not a fan of dubstep you probably wont like it, but it is truely a great piece of work. I listen to it A LOT

I am going to be buying both of these Soundtracks because I think they are truly amazing. Neil Davidge has captured the Halo sound and added his own touch to each song and I personal enjoyed each song. Some more than others, but I still enjoyed them

What do you think of the soundtrack samples? Leave your thoughts below and all I ask is that you be mature when you post and respect other peoples opinions.

The original soundtrack is alright but the remix soundtrack isn’t very good.

The OST is pretty good, the remixes are okay they each have a unique style.

The music sounds good, but it does not sound like Halo.

Overall the soundtrack sounds amazing. I had my doubts in the beginning, but now I can say they are all but gone. The tracks seem to really fit into what Halo 4 (I think) is supposed to feel like. They give that sense of suspense and mystery.

I like it, getting the boxed set.

The actual OST is great, from what I’ve heard, but I honestly hate remixes. I’ll be passing up the special edition this time around.

I love the new soundtrack and I really love the choir in the Revival remix, just epic!

Marty’s was better, based on what I’ve heard. Perhaps expecting O’Donnell-level of quality from a new composer is a bit much, though. Marty was a god, Davidge is a man who’s (hopefully) trying to do his best. Some of the music is great. To Galaxy, Awakening, and the OST Samples they released awhile ago are awesome. The grungy/electronic breakdown stuff is irritating however. I don’t know how they will fit in the game, but thematically they aren’t consistent with previous Halo pieces. I’ll reserve complete judgement for the final OST, however.

Love it. Pre-ordered the Box set last night

I am not sure if the remix versions will be put into the game. I think they are just an extra soundtrack. The direction with the remix versions I feel they are to appeal to the current generation of music so maybe that is why they are a separate soundtrack. The remixes also give a bit more of a sci-fi / dance mood I personally think.

I wish I had 75.00 to pre-order it, but I am already spending $100.00 on the game lol. So I will settle for the standard 13.99 disc

I’m not talking about the remixes. Listen to Revival with that awful electronic breakdown at the end. Yuck. Or Ascendancy, which starts off sounding like club music. The second half is fine, but I don’t dig the first.

the originals are ok not to big of a fan of them except for awakening i really like that track. As for the remixes dont mean to be rude but they are all horrible imo, i really dont like them at all i definitely wont be listening to them again.

Oh sorry I miss understood what you meant. My bad lol. Hmmm I don’t see club music really coming from that intro to the song “Ascendancy”. It sounds more like a action speed chase of some kind, but that is what I get out of it. The second half I can agree with you on. As for the Revival remix I can see what you mean and that is perfectly fine that you don’t like it. Electronic/Dubstep is a required taste.

I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of the remix.
Although I’m very happy with the OST. I like how they’ve kept similar to the last trilogy but were still able to change the sound.

I don’t like the amount of synth vs orchestra. I think orchestra stand alone can create a much more desired effect than the over-saturated sound of synth. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy what I heard, just the opinion of a single member.

> The original soundtrack is alright but the remix soundtrack isn’t very good.

I agree, most of the remixes are not to my liking. Some of the songs sound very generic and Hollywood-y. But there are some in there that are absolutely beautiful.

the remixes are like something you’d hear at a night club

I love the Soundtrack, it is very on par with Marty’s music imo. I’m not very fond of the remix track, there are a couple that I like, and most of the others that I don’t like and/or could care less about.
