I know this topic is WAAAYYY OVERDUE. But my account has been glitched. What are your guys thoughts on the Spartan abilities individually in general. Here are my opinions on them all.
Killcam (I know this isn’t a SA, but still): I honestly don’t care about this. I can live with or without this
Ground pound: Reduce the radius a bit
Clamber: I like this a lot actually. It will come in awesome use in custom games.
ADS/Sparting scope: I don’t care as long as it doesn’t decrease spread
Sliding: this could be extremely useful for sliding into cover quickly.
Charge: Sure I guess
Sprint: as long as they keep the “your shields can’t recharge while sprinting” idea I am fine with this. Especially since it looks damn near required in warszone.
thruster: I am a bit iffy on this ability but I could deal with it.
Highlighted weapons: I hate this the most. It looks stupid and silly. It just irks me for some reason. I don’t know why.
Overall I can deal with these abilities. What do you think?
I am entirely against the inclusion of Slide. I can’t see it being useful for anything other than slide-shotgunning and other such bastardry. Every other game I’ve played with sliding available in it that has PvP uses it for pretty much nothing than being cheap.
Other than that, I’m not against the other abilities and they all more or less seem to fit.
Killcam (I know this isn’t a SA, but still): CoD gimmick designed to bring in CoD players
Ground pound: Gimmicky and really unecessary
Clamber: Unecessary as crouch jumping essentially filled this role, clamber just gives the game a further ease of use and shortens a learning curve
ADS/Sparting scope: Gimmick only designed to bring in the CoD crowd, completely unecessary and is not purely an ascetic as we’ve been told since it tightens the spread on automatic weapons especially
Sliding: what is this destiny? gimmick used to bring in fans of other games
Sprint: kills game play map design power positions map control I could go on but you get it…
thruster: Without sprint I like it and it can be used as a good defensive or even offensive tool with spint I don’t like it
Highlighted weapons: completely negates the need for situational awareness and again shortens a learning curve making
I can’t help but honestly feel the best things 343 did with h5 was just essentially undo the things the did with h4
Remove loadouts
Remove ordanance
etc etc
Now in saying this, halo is my favorite franchise and I will reserve final judgement for when the game is launched and I’ve had a proper chance to play a fair number of games and get a feel for it
Who knows, in the end I may end up feeling like these mechanics favor the game play and make it better
We will see
I know this post sounds negative, but I will say that its not engative, only cautious until I play a final product
I agree with OP on pretty much everything except for sliding. I don’t like how they put sliding into the game, but I guess I could accept it, just as long as it’s hard to use so people don’t spam it
I think that all of the abilities enrich the game, including slide. Sliding can be used defensively, to duck into cover quickly. Even if it’s not used for that often, it can always be used for things like Machinima.
I like them all, but I believe we get the option to turn off killcam in the final game.
Killcam: meh, sometimes interesting.
Ground Pound: Hard to use when you want to deal the most damage.
Clamber: I like this a lot. It’s helpful when you almost don’t make a jump.
ADS/Smartscope: It worked really well in the Beta, so I’m okay with it
Sliding: I don’t see myself using this often with my traditional button layout, but with an Elite Controller, maybe.
Sprint: I like the consequences to sprinting, so I’m fine with it.
Highlighted weapons: It doesn’t effect gameplay, so I don’t mind it. It is sort of useful.

Wooa and here we have a hater, sorry i mean a pro Halo player
I like all, except kill cam it’s useless
Killcam doesn’t really count now. It’s opt-in, not opt-out. You press X to see it, not X to dismiss it. Most Smart Scope complaints don’t really apply any more, as all it does to autos now is reduce the rate at which the reticule blooms. Slide is useful for certain map traversal techniques, most notable on Fathom. GP can’t really be nerfed any more without it being actively discouraged from use. You still need it to be useful. I don’t have anything extra to say about the rest, just that I like 'em.
Ground Pound - After seeing some pro gameplay I’m beginning to question its balance.
Thruster - It has a lot of cool uses, but more often than not it’s just used to promote peek shooting. Needs fixed.
Sprint - Unnecessary, intrusive. I can live with it but the game would be better without it.
SmartScope - I like what they’ve done with the AR, Shotgun, and Needler, but the actual aiming down sights on other weapons is really lame.
Sliding - Unsure. It really didn’t see a ton of use in the beta.
Spartan Charge - Kind of pointless, but okay…
Stabilizer - Casual nonsense.
Clamber - Divided on this one.
Highlighted Weapons - Good idea.
I really don’t have a problem with any of the abilities, as long as I have a control scheme that caters 100% for me as I play Southpaw Bumper Jumper oh and it’s inverted as well (my friends claim my brain is broken but Barry my talking cat tells me they’re not my real friends and I shouldn’t listen to them)
I like them all. Should make gameplay much more interesting rather than previous Halos which played pretty much the same way every time.
Kill cam: don’t care
Thruster: I like very much
Sprint: don’t care
Smart scope: don’t care
Sliding: don’t care
Spartan charge: its ok
Stabilizer: pointless very pointless, more then the others
Clamber: it’s nice to have
Highlighted weapons: I like it
I like them, they’re fresh.

Meh, I’m probably an average - decent player at best if I played against pro’s or semi-pro’s I would get my -Yoink- handed to me, and I think that’s how it should be
I don’t enjoy my favourite game series being dumbed down to the point that anyone can pick up the game, play for 10 minutes and be just as good as someone who has put in time and effort into learning all the intricacies of the game.
I may not be a pro player but I can understand what some pro players mean when they say things like sprint hurt game play and then go on to list very precise thought out arguments against sprint only to be told by pro-sprinters to “adapt” or that “they still haven’t been presented with a valid argument against sprint”
Also, you should note that in the end I -did- say I reserve final judgment for when I play the final product
I think the abilities add another layer of strategy and creativity to the game. I love Halo 2 and 3 to death, but after a while I start to feel limited as to what I can do besides walk around, jump, shoot, and throw grenades.
There’s nostalgia and beauty in simplicity, but there are other sci-fi shooters that I’ve played (e.g. Advanced Warfare and Titanfall) that give you a feeling of power through agility. I didn’t enjoy these games nearly as much as the Halo series, but to me Halo has always been about being a Spartan; you are stronger and tougher than the average soldier, with an incredible arsenal. That’s what separates it from the rest of the FPS genre.
That’s why I think the abilities are more of an essential and logical addition to the sandbox, and not just a knockoff of other games. They give the player more tools to work with to strategize and fight in new ways, and reinforce the fact that Spartans are more than just a CoD or Battlefield character with shields.
there should be tons of new abillities
The abilities are ok I mean two of them have already been in padt games sprint and thruster. They feel really natural in the beta and nothing is too op if you miss a charge or ground pound your going to get a short delay before being able to fight them. The overall abilites work fine the one thing that makes me upset are the people who them without a solid good reason why and don’t understand change
The only thing I have mixed feeling about is Smart Scope. I like that they add zoom and different unique functionalities to weapons that were previously not as impressive. I also think it’s interesting to be able to use an optic on some weapons, such as the SMG, to give you an easier time acquiring a target if that’s your preference.
However, I don’t want them to overdo things (like reducing spread penalties etc.) so that it becomes essential, and no one uses a weapon without using Smart Scope. In the beta I won plenty of battles without even trying to use it though, so hopefully it will be balanced and well implemented.
