Mornin’ y’all. I hope the Flight is treating you as well as it is I.
This thread is not a debate about the addition of outlines, but an analysis and discussion regarding the colors everyone has picked and why. You are also welcome to garnish your replies with additional customization options that you feel relevant to the discussion, such as look sensitivity or controls more broadly.
When I first got into the flight I spent some time in Training Mode fine tuning my settings until the gameplay loop felt just right. The customization options in this game are indeed first in it’s class.
When it came to outlines, I had a theory: contrasts are key. The two classes should be differentiated by brightness, temperature, and/or complimentary hue.
My initial choices were a deep purple and orange. But these two clashed a bit. They were difficult to differentiate on radar and too dark to see at a distance. So I turned the foes to a bright yellow and that landed perfectly. I played for about a day this way.
Meanwhile, I thought I wanted friendlies muted into the background a little and the dark purple did that. Until last night (after earning Cosmic Corruption) I tuned the friendly outlines one shade warmer and now it all feels just right. Both friend and foe are vibrant, easy to see, and easy to differentiate.
Tl;Dr My outlines are a bright pink/purple (cerise I think) for allies and bright yellow for foes. Theoretically, I believe bright colors work best when they contrast warm to cool, or are at least be complimentary hues.
What’s your theory and setup?
Cheers.
