What is your fondest halo memory and from which game?
Mine is from halo 3, by far. The whole experience of that game really - it was absolute halo perfection to me. From the amazing campaign I spent so many hours completing and earning all the achievements in, to the epic multiplayer and joining in on the community banter on bungie.net
I’d say my key memories that really stand out are;
*getting my overkill medal avhievement legitimately. One of the hardest and proudest achievements I’ve ever gotten. It had to be done on FFA Lone Wolves Ranked where I believe the player cap was 5 or 6. It took hours and hours, days even. But when it popped I was in achievement heaven.
*legitimatelt getting my Spartan laser 2 kills with one shot achievement - again. Same scenario. Lone wolves ranked.
*finally hitting level 40 in lone wolves - then retiring through fear of dropping to 39! Haha.
Halo CE: Anniversary Silent Cartographer on Legendary CO-OP with Boom and Bandanna on.
CO-OP friend trips the security lock, runs back to go outside, and is greeted with 3 camo elites. Naturally he forgets what the skulls are, sticks two of the elites.
I turn round, and see a Spartan pass me at about 600mph and smash into the wall, followed by a mass of blue fire.
or:
Any moment where we tried to get the annual achievement. Too many laughs.
I agree for me it was playing Halo 3 on release day. I was too young to really experience Halo CE or Halo 2 on their release but when Halo 3 came out I was a freshman in high school and I had saved up my money to get the Xbox 360 just for Halo 3. Going through that lush jungle for the first time with a game fuel in my hand just made my eyes gleam like a little kids on Christmas. After that I was hooked. Other favorite memories had to be getting my overkill achievement and trying to do Endure…never did pull that one off…
My brother’s friend had an Xbox and he used to bring it over with 4 controllers and we would kill each other for hours. Later some of my friends and I had our own xboxs and my friends would literally lug around xbox, game and tv so that after school we could go to my house and system link. We usually played 2 people (one team) per tv that way we avoided frenzied accusations of screen hacking and cheating. We also had vhf players on each tv and we would record our sessions to watch later. Great days.
easily Halo 3…CE and 2 were classics in their own as well, but 3 was just the most fun. I was a teenager and times were rough at home but my mom still went out on release day and bought it for my birthday anyways and ended up apologizing because it was all she could get. That still makes me sad how bummed she was. But I didn’t need anything else. This game was just awesome. All my friends playing with me made it great. The custom games, theater, forge, the 4 player Co-Op…

^this
I had the Spartan Laser on me on Snowbound, saw someone getting close on my motion tracker, and I prepped the shot in my head. I was in one of the two covenant towers, I ran out and around and -blam!- got the guy, just to notice I hit a second guy on top of the other tower. Pure luck. I was also a Lone Wolves guy, I hit 48 in it and just couldn’t seem to get passed it. :^(
Another fond moment was finally hitting my 50 in team doubles, pure happiness.
I was like 12, it was my birthday, just got an xbox and halo 3 released like 3 months ago, it was a choice between halo 3 and l4d, i got halo 3 for an absurd amount of money at that time like 80$ for a game(foreigner prices). Go t back home, unwraped it, smelled it, put it in the tray, hear the theme song and the loading screen(the ring completing from pixels) and playing the first mission, one of the best nostalgia moment in my life, I remember it and I feel speechless, truly an amazing game. And then came the multiplayer…
First time playing Halo ever, at a mates house when I was about 11, playing Halo 3 Social Slayer on Valhalla, H3. Never played on an Xbox before either. My friend was dominating and I was never too far behind after a few matches in. Played H3 all night split screen, was completely entranced.
Getting an Xbox on my 12th Birthday and playing H3 Sierra 117. Everything about it, from the guns, the jungle, the marines, the music and the covenenant completely blew my mind.
Endless hours playing race maps, snipe FFAs, fat kid, ghost busters, bumper cars, sky castle on H3 with my best IRL mates
Getting a 30 on Lone Wolves and becoming the 2nd highest rank out of my group of mates (first was the guy I mentioned before). Crazy how I was so happy over getting a 30 loool
Spending one session getting myself and a group of online friends into the Top 40 for Griffball on Halo Charts soon after the playlist was released (such a minor achievement but was so fun/funny)
Coming 3rd in a European FFA online tournament, winning like 2000 Microsoft points or something like that
Most powerful of all was the fun times on H3 with my best mates. Don’t even talk to any of them anymore, sadly. But 5/6 years ago we would get on every day for a couple of hours and just have fun and then joke about it in school the next day. Most nostalgic and happy memories I hold to this day, regardless of how sad that sounds.
The early days of Halo 3, I’ll miss the days where I got on after middle school just to play with some of the best multiplayer ever created in the entire world.
It’s maybe not a game for me, but more the waiting between, Halo et Halo 2.
It’s the start of internet at my home, I discovered a “new” world and I follow the announcement and the Halo community, and this famous site : ilovebees.com (I think is down now)
But that was a very big moment !
