We are all aware that 343 dropped the ball with Halo 4. Unless they start patching this game and putting back the missing custom game options, then this game will be dead by the summer time. With that being said, I like some things about Halo 4 but it seems to me like they tried to copy COD too much. I really don’t understand this logic. It is supposed to be a totally different kind of game? I guess they just did this to make more money and try to compete with Activision.
I know a lot of players love Halo 4, so not everyone agrees with a lot of the negative backlash from the community. I have all the Halo games and I love most of them. Place your vote as to your favorite Halo game of all time and tell what made the game so good and what changes you would like to see 343 implement to make Halo 4 a better experience.
After that I think the games just go down in quality hugely…so:
Halo Reach
Halo 4
Halo ODST
This last one shouldnt count…but whatever…:
Halo Wars
Why do I do it in this order?
Halo 1 had the best campaign and was the only one were the flood was truly successful while introducing the universe. The Lan was nice and brought in new ideas for multiplayer.
Halo 3 had a great campaign with graphics upgraded largely from Halo 2 while “ending” the trilogy of Halo. The multiplayer was expanded in this game and did show mostly positives but did have some bad ideas that left a good portion of the Halo community back in Halo 2.
Halo 2 had a good campaign that did a great job of bringing the covenant view into the game but it ended suddenly with the final boss battle. The multiplayer was hugely expanded from the Lan and kept many players even when Halo 3 was released.
Halo Reach had a good campaign that showed a different view of the Spartans that had not been shown while bringing us to the history behind it. The multiplayer was widely undone with new ideas but the custom games expanded hugely in this game because of the party type game atmosphere.
Halo 4 had a campaign that was largely a mirror of the first 3 Halos but it did an excellent job of bringing in emotions around the end. The multiplayer is currently broken and there has been no say if it will be fixed at all.
Halo ODST was nicely done but was too short and didnt feel like a full game. The only multiplayer for this game was the firefight which was fun but got boring once the achievements for firefight were completed.
Halo Wars had an interesting idea but the campaign was all over the place in story and diffculty. Some parts of the campaign were almost impossible on normal while other parts were extremely easy on Legendary with all skulls on. The multiplayer was new and interesting but could not measure up to other strategy games.
CE was excellent. It had a great campaign and the LANs were fun.
Halo 4 is well done. It has some glitches and such but overall is fun to play.
Halo 3 had an amazing campaign IMO but the multiplayer was slightly less wowing. I mean, I thought it was great and fun and all that, but it wasn’t nirvana in any way.
Halo Reach was fun in customs and such. The campaign was a disappointment and the multiplayer was meh.
Halo ODST was well done and had a great story, but it felt too short and offered little substantial except for the vidmasters and Firefight.
Halo Wars wasn’t my favorite. Maybe it’s because I’m not a strategy person? Eh. It’s fun, but unfulfilling.
Halo 2 introduced the Arbiter. Everything else is bad. Except for the Tartarus fight.
I don’t think Halo Wars fits into this type of FPS list. I really enjoyed that game, but that’s not what this thread is about.
My top 2…
Halo 2
Halo 3
The rest are so-so. Halo 2 was amazing for multiplayer. Halo 3 was amazing for multiplayer and theater and forge and custom games and it completely improved Halo in those regards. Though I do miss dual wielding at times and my soft-modded Halo 2 where I could have some serious fun. Glitches and mods are fun as hell. Super Jumps, getting out of Headlong getting smashed by a Wraith. The dummy glitch. Man. All that stuff from Halo 2 brings back some kick-*$# memories.
I voted for Halo 2 because of its unique ranking system and all of the great memories I have had with that game. Also because you could track on Bungie.net how far you were to the next level via the progress bar, which obviously fluctuated up or down based on W/L.
Oh also the EPIC level icons (see here if you need a refresher).
Gah… Halo Wars is the one stain on the Halo Universe, in my opinion. Halo was never intended to be anything but an FPS. That game never should have been made.
I understand some like the game likely due to its style, but as a Halo game, it doesn’t compare to the others.
