What is your favorite Halo Campaign mission?

What is your favorite Halo campaign mission?
I know it has been asked many times before. But I’m curious, what Halo mission is your favorite? If you cannot pick just one, give me your top 3 or top 5 From the FPS Halo’s. (CE,2,3,4,5,ODST, and Reach.)
I would like to see constructive posts here to liven up the conversation. Give reasoning behind your choice(s). Why do you like (X) mission?
Think of some of these aspects of a game to help guide your thoughts:
Story (plot, character, setting theme), Gameplay, level design etc.

One of my favorite Halo missions is the mission “Halo” from Combat Evolved. The plot is simple, go rescue marines. But what made it special was the openness of the mission. You could rescue the marines in any order you wanted.
The mission also was one of the most varied of the original game. You got to drive a warthog around a beautiful environment. And each location you went provided a unique way to tackle the Covenant enemies and rescue your allies. The sniper on the cliff in one spot, going inside and down into a structure in another area. It was just so much fun.
Which is your favorite and why?
I’m looking forward to your thoughts.

also, just as an addition to your response, looking back at your favorite missions, what objectives were your favorites? For example: Escort missions,Vehicle runs, Boss fights? etc.

Halo 3 - Halo

End this fight

It’s so hard to choose. The Halo series has so many great missions…

I’d have to say mine is Halo 3’s “The Covenant”. The openness of the level, the variety of gameplay, and the whole race against time to stop Truth, keeps me coming back.

Truth and Reconciliation from Halo : CE. I could play that mission start to finish with my eyes closed.
A close second is The Silent Cartographer, also from CE. I love the beach landing and the “one man army” feel of it.

Tip of the spear in Halo Reach

My top 3, in no particular order:

  • Midnight (Halo 4) - Metropolis (Halo 2/Halo 2 Anniversary) - Shutdown (Halo 4)Honorable mentions:
-Cortana (Halo 3) (Don’t judge me)
    -The Covenant (Halo 3)
    -The Maw (Halo: Combat Evolved)
    -Coastal Highway (Halo 3: ODST)
    -Infinity (Halo 4)

Tip of the spear and Long night of solace from Halo Reach.

Quarantine zone (H2)
Battle of Sunaion (H5)
The Covenant (H3)
i chose this missions because i love the Covenant.

My favorite was Coastal Highway(Halo 3 ODST), or the one before it with the place where you find Dare. I like Coastal Highway because I killed VRGL like 10 times because I didn’t get Pink but Deadly

The Library. Always will be. It’s iconic to me, actually.

Infinity on Halo 4

Yeah, too hard to choose one, but my favorites are:

  • The Maw (CE). Epic race to the end and was just simply awesome. - Outskirts/Metropolis (H2). I know they’re technically 2 different levels, but Metropolis is just an extension of Outskirts. - The Covenant (H3). Beach assault, CQC, vehicles, weird temporary alliance with the Flood to stop Truth, this level had so much going for it. - Cairo Station (H2). Boarding sections can be pretty tough on legendary, but this is just a well-done level. - Gravemind (H2). First-hand witnessing of the Covenant schism.

It’s a tough choice… Overall, my top favorites are:

  • Halo (HCE) - I like that level for pretty much the same reasons as the OP, but primarily due to the sense of wonder and mystery that I felt when I saw this mission played out for the very first time (I initially watched my brother play the campaign when HCE first came out). Even to this day, I still love to wander around the crash site, check out the waterfalls, and zoom in on the pistol to get a closer look at the intricate details in the distance and in the Halo ring. Even on the original graphics, it’s still awe-inspiring and makes my imagination wander (wondering what other environments and landscapes are on the rest of the ring). The whole level feels like an adventure. - Delta Halo (H2) - For primarily the same reasons I like “Halo”, exploring the environment and examining the details. I am quite excited to get there on the Anniversary edition, which I am playing for the first time. I love the stone Forerunner structures, it really gives Delta Halo a unique feel compared to the other installations we visit throughout the franchise. - Tsavo Highway (H3) - Vehicle runs! What else is there to say? - The Storm (H3) - Epic moments! Lots of variety! I especially love the Scarab battle on the Mongooses, and the epic music that plays at multiple points in the level. - The Ark (H3) - Another new installation, and more exploration! It is quite a lengthy level with some obnoxious bits (always hate fighting Brutes), but it’s got so much to do, with tons of fun vehicle runs. It’s enjoyable for the wide variety of combat you get to do. - The Covenant (H3) - Another fun level with lots of variety. I especially love the rendition of “On a Pale Horse” that plays when you fly in the Hornet. It feels very epic, especially when you join forces with the Elites. I just don’t like the parts where you have to fight the Brute Chieftains in those confined spaces. There are other missions I like, of course, but these would definitely have to be my top favorites.

Halo CE: The Maw has to be my favorite CE mission, the final battle with a giant clash of Covenant, Flood, 343 Guilty Spark, and the Master Chief fighting it out aboard the Pillar of Autumn, until of course Chief comes out on top. The epic final drive to the Broadsword before the destruction of Alpha Halo. The hilarious final scene with Johnson. And the line of the series:
Cortana: “Halo, its finished.”
Master Chief: “No, I think we’re just getting started.”

Halo 2: The Great Journey, once again the final mission comes first in the list of my favorite Halo 2 missions. An epic throwdown on Delta Halo between the Elites and Brutes with awesome battle moments like: being backed up by Hunters, starting a prison-break, duking it out in banshees; and facing down Tartarus, ultimately ending in getting his ### kicked by the Arbiter. With another awesome ending line:
Lord Hood: “Master Chief? You mind telling me what your doing on that ship?”
Master Chief: “Sir, finishing this fight.”

Halo 3: The Covenant is by far my favorite Halo 3 mission for being one of the most epic final battles in all my gaming life. Spartan Lasers, Brute Chieftains, Hornets, Scarabs, Flood (both enemies and allies) are all there till you reach the Citadel. The awesome hidden music is something I will restart the mission if need be to hear that tune. The death of Miranda Keyes is a heartbreaker. And the death of the Prophet of Truth comes with its own awesome line:
Truth: “I AM TRUTH!! THE VOICE OF THE COVENANT!!”
Arbiter: “So you must be silenced.”
And after that, we get the amazing unveiling of the new Alpha Halo with that sweet soundtrack.

Halo 3 ODST: Uplift Reserve stands out of all the fun missions in ODST, as Dutch is perhaps my favorite, next to Buck, out of all the ODSTs. Not to mention what could be more fun then riding around on a safari in a Warthog, Ghost, or Chopper, and blowing up every other enemy in sight with Spartan Laser or Rocket Launcher? And after an epic final jump of the ridge, Dutch is spoken to by the Lord:
Dutch: “So, was that a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’?”
Vehicle: “EXPLOSION!!”
Dutch: “Amen.”

Halo Reach: It really is hard to choose from this one, but I’d have to give it to again the final mission The Pillar of Autumn, the final battle for first game. A glorious battle/race to the Pillar of Autumn to save Cortana. Driving and fighting through waves of each Covenant enemy, and all the while overlooking a desecrated Reach. The honorable deaths of Carter and Emile, and the ultimate sacrifice of Noble 6 as he stays behind to manned the Mac gun and destroy Phantom after Phantom until a Cruiser, and saving the Autumn. Its ending line also happens to be the opening of the fight to come:
Capt. Keyes: “Cortana, all I need to know is did we loose them?”
Cortana: “I think we both know the answer to that.”

Halo 4: Forerunner stands as my fave for being our real introduction to the Reclaimer Saga. With our first encountering with the Prometheans, the fight between them and the New Covenant, and a handful of unoriginal but still kick### Forerunner weapons. And just before an epic ghost drive, we are introduced to the powerful Ur Didact, who gives us that one small line to set the stage of the saga:
Didact: “The Forerunners have returned.”

Halo 5 Guardians: the Elites have been one of the most faithful enemies/allies in Halo, so obviously the first mission where we finally get to step on their homeworld in The Swords of Sanghelios makes its mark as being my favorite in the game. Both fighting against and alongside the Elites on their own turf is a blast, with all of the awesome sculptures and other scenery are what make the entire game so awesome. And getting to finally see the Arbiter again, after like eight years, is pretty sweet as well. Though there’s no big line that stands out at the beginning or end, the speech by Buck when finding the dead Swords of Sanghelios really speaks to me:
Buck: “Arbiter’s an ally, so these dead here are our brothers as far as I’m concerned.”

Halo Reach- The Pillar of Autumn
The atmosphere of this entire mission is like no other, truly a great one

Mine will forever and always be Two Betrayals from CE.

Although it’s a retread of AOTCR, it serves new purpose under the weight of a heavy betrayal from 343 Guilty Spark. And with the added Flood and Sentinels, it adds a new level of intensity whenever you turn a corner. And the music is some of the best in the entire series. “Under of Cover of Night” still remains to this day my favorite Martin O’Donnell piece.

The last mission in Halo Wars 2 I can’t think of the name right now and the first mission of Halo Reach.

Halo 2, the Arbiter. Just the surreal experience of being on the same side as the covenant was an experience that caught me completely off guard as a kid. Now, I love the idea of being apart of a special forces unit sent behind enemy lines to destroy an insurgency quietly. Also, and this may just be a me thing, but I love to arm my elites and grunts with the best weaponry possible and get them all to the end of the level.
