What is wrong with Action Sack?

Action Sack used to be a beloved playlist in previous titles; a place where players could go to unwind and not worry so much about performance and ranks and K/Ds. It was a playlist full of wacky, zany, fun gametypes. When Action Sack was added to Halo 5, I was happy that 343i (finally) put it back into Halo. But now the state of it is terrible. And I’m not talking about the gametypes, though that surely has something to do with it.
I’m talking about people always leaving or otherwise not playing games because they don’t like them. Now, look, I understand that some people don’t like Tankworld or Mantis Breakout. But quitting or otherwise not playing is still rude to the other players. For instance, I just played a Tankworld game where two players, instead of playing, drove out the tanks and then immediately got out of them, suiciding. This is even worse than quitting because they prevent new players from joining. Maybe they were trying to avoid the banhammer, or maybe they were trolling. But honestly, did they save that much time letting the remaining two on their team fight 4 enemies?
People ruining fun in Action Sack sucks. I hope 343i looks into ways to ensure that Action Sack remains social and fun but also prevents quitting, idling, betraying, etc. from running Rampant (lol) in the playlist. But they should also be investigating why people are doing these things. If Tankworld and Mantis Breakout aren’t shaping up to be as popular as 343i expected, isn’t it time to change how those games work, or replace them with something more fun? Don’t just be like, “Here’s your Action Sack, now shut up and play”. Tweak it, make it better, listen to feedback and look at the stats. I mean, any game where you have quitters or unhelpful people, social or otherwise, is not going to be fun. And fun should be the priority in a playlist like Action Sack.

343i needs to (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) make Action Sack great again.

PS: stop having JIP put people in at the ends of games. Honestly, that’s just stupid.

Personally, what I think action sack needs is rotating gametypes on a biweekly basis. Have a large pool of popular types and just rotate a bunch every time. I think that would help it from getting stale and boring, and hopefully discourage quitting.

Voting would probably make it better too…

Probably. That probably would be more a bandaid than anything else; in the event the vote ended up going to Tankworld, people would still quit. But voting would decrease the frequency at which that gametype was selected; I just don’t know how easy it would be to implement a voting system and UI into a game that doesn’t already have it. Would that time be better served making more permanent fixes to the playlist?

You are kinda contradicting yourself. if you don’t care about performance or anything why worry about if other players are quitting or not playing right? just play your game and don’t worry about it. after all it’s only action sack. yeah I don’t like quitters either but I don’t worry about it in action sack.

On a personal level, I have rarely played action sack, and the truth is that the games I have played are boring. In halo 4 were good this list of game. Maybe they should put the system to vote for the type of game, to avoid leaving so much.

Two words…Tank World.

I blame everything on that abysmal mess.

It’s not a contradiction. The possibility of victory is always a factor in fun; when the odds are stacked against you for reasons beyond your control, it certainly removes the possibility of victory and makes one disappointed that they don’t even stand a chance. Of course, I don’t care about victory as much in Action Sack as I would in, say, Team Slayer. But when two people -Yoink- around by leaving or not playing, then it’s like you’ve lost before you’ve begun. Action Sack is for fun, yes, but that doesn’t mean it should not be regulated. It’s still matchmaking, it still has objectives, and winning is still the ultimate goal of each game. It’s just that, in Action Sack, you can through away conventional measures of skill and try your hand at victory through unconventional means.

Tank World. That’s what is wrong with Action Sack. lol
