The art design of Halo 5 BTB maps, some not all weapon skins, and some not all armor/helmets just don’t seem to fit the Halo universe to me. Does anyone agree? I’ve always thought of Halo having a mix of cool, badass, epic, mysterious, and a small amount of humor type of design in everything from music to visuals to story. But it seems like 5 has some art designs that aren’t bad, but just don’t fit Halo.
When you say BTB maps are you talking about how Recurve has a human fire piece on the bottom of the map and a Covenant fire piece on the top of it? I hate that. Some of the weapon skins, the Mister Chief and Spicy Locke ones, look completely ridiculous to me.
I know right! I feel like 343 has no respect for Halo. What with all the stupid armors/emblems/skins/variants that have no place in a halo game. There’s like 5 different helmets with a ridiculous unicon-like forehead that’s just plain dumb. They treat the customization aspect of this game like a big joke. It’s just sad.

Hey, to be fair Bungie had flaming heads, purple flaming heads, and a visorless helmet with a skull inside.
Gotta keep the kids entertained at bring-your-kid-to-work-day I suppose? The rainbow one would be fun, but then they had to go full “Hey guys isn’t this funny right like it’s funny right???”
Then the rest of the skins will be an ugly, dumb spiral variation or something. Meanwhile, every other game has actually cool skins, including Halo 4 (non-MCC), which is strange because usually 343’s incompetence in every facet of the franchise is usually consistent.

Most of the weapon skins in this game look like some of the dumb corny texture mods people make in for them old Halo PC or Fallout mods. The only decent skins are green machine and that gold one. The rest seriously look like a 5 year old done an MS Paint job and was like “these can be Halo 5 skins for guns”.
To whoever designs the skins: Are you lazy? Your skins are horrible! Go copy them out of a game or make the weapon have one solid metallic texture of gold, green, blue, red or something… All them patterns and weird shapes make the guns look horrible! Make them more militarised or something they look like nerf guns or something real dodgy out of a $2 shop…
I think Halo 5’s graphics are a bit too saturated in general though I like the art design. I’m just glad the maps aren’t turning into something like Bo3’s nuketown. That thing looks like it comes straight out of a disney movie.
I agree. 70% of the armour in this game is not worthy of a Spartan, not even a marine. Seeker for example…

I make them in Photoshop CC (2015).
I start by taking a simple image of whatever weapon it is. Depending on the design I’ll usually start by having multiple copies of the same image on different layers.
The base layer will be set to de-saturation, black and white levels manipulated to create contrast against lines and curves, and a Gaussian blur added. After that, depending on if it’s a patterned skin like the Autumn skins or a colored skin like the Ivory, I’ll overlay a pre-made patterned camo or whatever the image is that I’ve already had. If it’s a patterned skin, I’ll start by adding a distort effect to that layer with the map of whatever weapon it is. This way my pattern wraps around the weapon and matches it’s curves. I have to make the map prior to doing this. If it’s a colored skin, I make multiple layers and de-saturate them all. I’ll then select specific areas I want colored and simply color them.
There is obviously more to it and more detail, but that’s a quick rundown.

I guess it’s just a double-standard with the community. Bunge can goof off and add whatever BS/unrealistic stuff they want and they’ll eat it up. Because these apparently belong in a Halo game, right? Yet, if 343 adds “stupid” stuff like this, their respect for the franchise gets questioned, like the above. Compared to what we’ve seen in the past, this is mild. And to be honest, I actually wouldn’t mind having the Mister Chief one. Couldn’t agree more.
If you don’t like them, don’t use them. It’s a choice, nothing is being forced upon you in regard to customization.
I enjoy the silly references every once in a while.
Today I even saw someone reference the “Blame Stosh” joke from back in the day haha.

Funny you say that, one of the Weapon skins in the January update is actually based off the BoomCo Magnum Dart gun. I mean, it sound stupid, but it’s one cool af looking skin. Lime green magnum looks great.
