What is Truth?

So honestly I never looked into the Hunt the Truth audio series until just recently. To my surprise, it was actually fantastic, at least to the point of just storytelling. Even though it didn’t really line up with the game it was a riveting and heart-pumping series. I’ve started listening to one called “marsfall”, and it’s good but I would really like to see another Halo one at some point.

What were everyone else’s thoughts?

It was really good, though really marred by it meaning a whole lot of nothing in the end.

Honestly the time around halo 4 was a really strong one for those who enjoyed the story of halo. You had catalogue, you have the forerunner novels, you had hunt the truth, you had escalation, and you had nightfall. There was a lot of work done to constantly feed the story community with new tidbits. The quality of it wasn’t always great, but there was plenty to discuss in this subforum, and probably why i still mentally come back to it frequently.

Halo 5 dashed all that though, and its been pretty silent beyond some novels since. I understand there was a bit of backblash of ‘needing to know too much to enjoy the games’, but beyond a few small things in halo 4 and 5, that could have been handeled a lot better without axing everything.

Even the books these days seem smaller scale and less interesting. But maybe that’s just my disinterest thanks to halo 5 showing

Hey, UrbanRocket495 Thanks for responding and I agree with you. I enjoyed the gameplay (multiplayer) of Halo 5 but the storytelling and the way it was done campaign-wise was kind of disappointing.

I really enjoyed Hunt The Truth. I thought it was an incredibly well done story, and the voice actors were great. I genuinely enjoyed Kumail Nanjiani as a black hat tech nerd.

As you pointed out, it was unfortunate that the story of H5 didn’t coincide very well with Hunt The Truth. I say this because the story presented in HTT was about a thousand times better than what we got in H5. The potential was definitely wasted.

I really enjoyed HTT. It was the first expanded universe media I read or listened to that didn’t come in a box collection with the games. It really pulled me deeper into the lore and opened the door for all the books. I was really intrigued by all the espionage and mystery. I was disappointed that the story of Halo 5 didn’t meet the expectations laid out by all the prelude media like HTT and Retribution.

I agree. All the voice talent was bang-on. Stacy Keach as Mendez stole the show, though.

Baby don’t hurt me, no more.

Honestly I never really listened to it.

Hunt The Truth is easily one of my favourite stories in the Halo universe. It goes into so much depth about civilian life in the Halo universe, the status of the UNSC post war, how the UEG & ONI function, adding some fanservice, and explaining what happened to certain characters. All of this wrapped neatly in an incredibly well written, relevant and frankly unsettling conspiracy plot.

It’s disappointing to hear the Halo TV show is going to be sticking with modified versions of existing characters when Hunt The Truth proves that there is space for Halo to provide an incredible sci-fi political drama with cameo appearances for popular characters. And even Halo Infinite, while going in a safer direction, is going to be returning back to Halo roots where they can only follow so many stories.

You should if you have time. I think it’s aged well.

Maybe I will listen to it someday.
