What is "To Far" when changing halo.

When is it “To Far” when making halo like other shooters?
For me its things like killstreaks and attachments.
Personally i think 343 is doing fine when coming up with the balance between classic and new halo.
If i wanted one thing i would like in halo 4 (but would be hated by all) would be a Golden camo for your BR, DMR, AR etc when you headshot over 20,000 players, but people would complain its to close to cod, but in the end player skill gap would close if players had to headshot kill, plus they would play so much they would most likely end up learning map layout and how to get better at the game.

That number is kind of irrational. Maybe knock off a zero.

Personally, I think making the game too imbalanced and too slow or too fast makes it too far.

Reach was too slow for me. I’m hoping Halo 4 isn’t too fast.

When you don’t even need to win games to rank up is too far for me.

They’ve already gone too far with using Reach’s gameplay as a base.

Armour Abilities in loadouts was too far for most gametypes. Everything else is fine, I love the customisation in Halo 4. I hope the perks don’t effect gameplay massively.

Getting rid of even spawns (Loadouts) is to far when it comes to Halo.

When players no longer start off on equal ground whether it’s through starting weapons, abilities, progression rewards, etc.

Abilities/loadouts would’ve been fine in Reach, if everyone started off with the same one. Equality is the biggest factor in balance.

  • Perks
  • 8 different pre-order bonuses
  • Armor Abilites
  • and general copying of cod and other larger FPS games to try and appeal to a casual audience who are bound to leave a week anyway after then next big title comes out.

Also a ability to spawn with any gun at all that isn’t a power weapon would annoy me. And i think that ranking up without winning would also annoy me.

> When you don’t even need to win games to rank up is too far for me.

This.

Also, if progression in the ranking system unlocked new weapons/armor abilities. Halo has always been a game where you start off on equal footing. Sure, AA’s skewed that a bit (a lot) in Reach, but at least each player is given the same options at the start of the game.

Although fingers crossed that even that (the AA system) will be revamped in H4 to require more teamwork than Reach does.

Too Far:

  • AAs were available off spawn.
  • Having to unlock your weapons/AAs/perks in order to start with them.
  • Allowing people to select loadouts at the beginning of the game and after every death.
  • Instant respawn.
  • Being able to customize your loadout in the effing respawn screen!
  • Armour that affects gameplay.
  • Adding the ability to sprint.
  • Making maps bigger to allow for the use of sprint.
  • Allowing people to rank up by losing.

1 AAs off spawn is better than having maps focused around them
2 Having to unlock your makes you have something to go for
3 Why is this a bad thing
4 This is a good thing
5 making it so you don’t have 15 different classes
6 Yes this is completely game changing /sarcasm
7 The ability to sprint has always been a part of Halo lore, I’m happy it’s in the games
8 Where was this confirmed
9 This is the only thing I agree with you on

Apparently it’s adding anything beyond guns and shields.

Having guns is copying off of CoD! (sarcasm).

I’m one of the few people that are a veteran Halo player, but love the changes that 343i are making.
I think anything that actually improves the formula is a good addition.

He asked for my opinion, so I gave it. I didn’t ask for your take on my opinion, but since you did, I will rebuttal.

  1. AAs off spawn is much worse than AAs as map pick-ups. It is nearly impossible to balance all the AAs when they are available off-spawn, but much easier when they are only available as map pick-ups.
  2. Which doesn’t take very long. 2 weeks tops. What happens then? They said it wouldn’t take you long to get your perfect loadout.
  3. Because loadouts are inherently not equal. No more even starts. Less of the map is used as there are basically no weapons on the maps anymore.
  4. That is your opinion. Instant respawn encourages the rushing mentality of die, press x, and sprint forward right away. There are no more breaks in the action, no chance to recharge your shields after a fight. You killed someone? Good job, they have already spawned before you can finish reloading and are rushing to your position with a long lasting and faster sprint to finish you off.
  5. This allows people to stay out of the game. You keep getting killed, so why not take a minute out of the game to “change” things. Also, why would you ever need 15 different classes? There shouldn’t even be classes in Halo to begin with.
  6. Your opinion yet again. But these aren’t as “innocent” as you think. Being able to hold two primary weapons is pretty game-changing.
  7. Gameplay is more important than lore.
  8. It is common sense. In order to make sprint useful, you need to be able to sprint. In order to sprint, you need to have a straight line. This leads to long, hallways and cover and things stretched further away from each other.
  9. Good.
