After watching IGN go frame by frame on the Halo 5 trailer, they stumbled upon this.
What could this be?
Other than that, SMG, DMR, BR with a weird sight, Ar, and the energy sword were seen.
They surely couldn’t have ditched the iconic Rocket design!
I don’t even watch IGN or even listen to them much. They made some few false statements or misunderstood. during the video.
Probably a redesigned rocket launcher, and honestly as long as it functions the same, the people who Will complain are people we should be ignoring anyway.

IDK there is a large fan base who has enjoyed the fact that halo’s returning weapons have been recognizable in every game they have appeared in. The BR, while changed rather significantly, still has the same overall shape.
I think the reason the RL would gather so many complaints is that it appears to not be a single shot weapon, similar to the incineration canon. now, it could just be the angle, but that, combined with the fact that halo’s RL was always a two-shot disposable tube with a lighter firing mount is something that has been around since halo 1.
Now, it could be that this is a completely new variant on the RL, it may be one shot, and we may have to deal with that. That doesn’t mean you should just dismiss those fans and say they aren’t worth listening to at all.

It appears that you just glossed over my post, so I’ll reiterate,
“as long as it functions the same, the people who Will complain are people we should be ignoring anyway”.
If it’s the exact same old rocket launcher with a new look, then any complaints against it will be superficial “I don’t like how this looks” complaints. It’s a matter of personal taste, and a franchise as garganumornous as halo shouldn’t be easily swayed by personal opinion.
My guess/hope is that is a new weapon. I am hoping that it is actually a player guided missile ala ERYX/SRAW/AT4 from the BF series.
Low if any splash damage(similar to the missile pod), guide it around corners for skill shots at close range and at long range to take out vehicles. Lower damage compared to the normal rockets(roughly 1.5 missile pod shots) and it only fires one missile at a time.
It would be a more skillful anti-air option than lock on weapons have been in the past, and its lower damage would keep it from locking down all vehicle traffic like the laser does.
I would be fine if it replaced the rail-gun actually.
> I would be fine if it replaced the rail-gun actually.
NEVER!
Do not speak of such things. The railgun ROOLZ. It is my favorite weapon. It must remain!
But it does look like it’s some kind of charge-up or lock-on weapon, since it has the lever on the front grip that is independent of the trigger. It also has a swing door between the two grips for reloading. I just hope it’s not the new railgun.

I tend to agree with this. I don’t recall missile pod ever being in multiplayer, and this looks like it could hold 2 missiles. It would be an excellent anti-aircraft power weapon; two shots then you’re done. Use it wisely.

It’s not like I’m all OMG 343 CHANGED THE ROCKET LAUNCHER LOOK IM NOT BUYING HALO 5!!!11, it’s not even remotely a game changer for me. But I’d still be disappointed if this generic looking Rocket Launcher replaced the iconic one.

I would hope that it is a new type of rocket launcher, something like a guided missile launcher, although the design doesn’t looks like it’d be able to guide anything. I think it would be terrible if it is a replacement for the SPNKr rocket launcher because you’d be replacing one of the most iconic weapons in Halo with the most generic rocket launcher design possible.
Hoping it is a new rocket launcher though, and if it is, it looks like it is magazine fed by that box in the middle of it. Maybe capable of 3 or 4 small anti-personal rockets.
It looks to me like a multiple-shot rocket launcher. If you look on the side, it has a small box that looks like some kind of magazine. So I suggest a rocket launcher, that shoots smaller warheads, and MAYBE some form of lock on. So something like the Plasma Launcher, just UNSC.
Quick note, it looks like the SMG’s mag is loaded into the pistol grip, as opposed to the side mounted mag from Halo 2, 3 and ODST. So that is a pretty cool thing to note.

I didn’t gloss over your post. My point was that the new model looks like it wouldn’t have the same function, and I responded according to that.
True, but the “personal taste” in question is one held by a large part of the long-term community. This isn’t the first time an (as of now) unexplained change in an iconic design has caused a bit of an uproar. And stating that peoples opinions should just be ignored and/or that they shouldn’t post about it is in itself a rather rude remark. The entire reason these forums exist is so that people can speculate, talk, and occasionally point out things that bother them.
Back on topic, as others have put it, the RL is a classic design unique to halo, and this new one looks rather generic by comparison.
I think myself and others will prefer to continue speculating that this is a new weapon that has some actual functional differences.

lOL, They had even worse mess ups later on in the video, I’m just disregarding what they said.
