(Mindless ranting, be warned)
The more I learn about this game, the worse I feel. It’s at the point now that nothing they could add, fancy new game modes or cool accessories, could bring this game back for me. So many features that would seem so logical to add are being neglected. Playable elites, assassinations at launch, dual wielding, the list goes on, and I mean REALLY goes on. The list is too long for me to think about this game in a good way, and far too long to even consider a pre-order. And what in gods name is that XP system? Why would you do that?
The release of Halo infinite was honest-to-god the only thing I was looking forward to this entire year, but now it feels like a disposable Halo branded shooter game.
Is there something to look forward to about this game? Do I just need to wait for good news? Is it too early to be feeling this way?

Those things mentioned are not key features of a Halo game, and majority of players can live without. If you’re going to mention key features missing, mention co-op campaign, forge, no global xp system (that we know of). These are real features that should have been ready to ship day one.

you assure him you’d never tell him to “ration his passion” and proceed to do pretty much exactly that lol xD

Playable elites - their uinclusion means a comparable customization system which requires consistent additions. This means a reduction in the amount of spartan armors created and a reduction of value of the BP given a majority of players use spartans, not elites. This is a logitical omition and one I agree with
Assassinations - this doesnt really add anything to the game but an additional way to monitize. I am surprised it is not there purely cause of that fact. that being said, it is also most likely logistical. 343 have stated that a vast majority of people turn them off or dont use them. This would infer that devoting man power to their animation/implementation is just not worth it as a result
Dual wielding - has a ton of balancing issues that come along with it and really acts more of a gimmic then anything of use
There are 100% things that have come out that are concerning. I think the challenge based xp is a terrible decision, but I am also open to seeing how it plays out. That being said, a consistently rewarding progression system is needed and challenge based ONLY is not that.
The lack of co-op at launch. Honestly, this does not matter to me as I play solo my first couple times through and I would argue to most people that will play the game, will also not matter (I think plenty of people that have no expectations for Infinite will play it which means they lack the baggage of the average Halo fan). Of course its disappointing it is not there but if they could not get it done before launch I am fine with them delaying the feature. What matters is the core campaign is functional, co-op is a plus but not necessary for the initial campaign launch window.
Forge - the lack of forge entirely depends on the multiplayers initial launch suite. If the multiplayer has a bunch of social modes and a decent number of maps, its absence wont be super noticed to those outside of the forge communtiy. Forge is meant to suppliment dev stuff and if the dev stuff cant survive 6 months then there are more important issues then forge.
Definitely though, be bummed, be disappointed. Though remember infinite is still Halo and probable the most recent in the series that actually feels like a Halo game. Halo isnt defined by forge, playable elites, dual wielding and assassinations. Its defined by its gameplay and its sandbox campaign. Look forward to playing the game. If you are not looking forward to just playing Halo, I dont think you were actually interested in the game itself but features surrounding the core experience.

I agree with a large majority of your points. HI will still be extremely playable at launch, and really the only thing I’m missing off the bat is coop. There’s still a lot of game coming at you in December.
The things OP listed are fairly inconsequential; what might really drag this game down is Xbox One players discovering that their game is 30fps, and noticing how they are getting absolutely destroyed in cross-platform matches against Series and PC people.
Every game has its plus and minus. No game is perfect and no game will every be perfect. It’s up to each individual consumer to decide whether or not a game or any other product is worth buying or investing time into. I agree that having no co-op campaign at launch is a bummer for me but I personally am willing to wait to get that feature. I also know that other players are not willing to wait and that may be a deal breaker for them. Same goes for Forge and any other number of features that may or may not be included at launch. While I might be willing to wait a while for these features to be added, others will not be as patient. That’s completely fine and it does not mean the game itself is any more or less “good” or more or less of a well made game. I am fairly confident that what will be there at launch will be of an acceptable and even great quality. For me as long as the game is fun to play and majority bug free I will have a great time. I don’t say this to try to wave away your or anyone else’s concerns about the game. I think that all the things that people bring up about what the game may be missing or certain paths the game is taking in regards to XP and armor coatings or other things are valid concerns. I agree that it may be worth it more to wait for a while until the game is more feature complete or has more to offer before giving the game or company your money if you feel that the game/service is not worth your money in its current state. Money talks when it comes to business and I’m all for each and every person to make the choice for themselves. If you’re asking me I think that what we’ll get at launch is enough for me to spend money on but again not everyone will feel the same way.
While you are worried about the game consider some good news. The multiplayer is free so you can try what is considered the main attraction by some without any cost. If you didn’t like it then you don’t have to worry about wasted money. If you did you might be ready to buy the campaign.

Yeah, look forward to finally be getting another Halo game after 6 years. I think it’s definitely too early to be feeling overwhelmingly negative towards Halo, but a healthy amount of criticism isnt a bad thing.
releasing games in a content-deficient state for them to be completed through online patches has unfortunately become the nature of the beast. however this practice is not always malicious on the dev’s part, modern games require longer development cycles than ever while publishers still want games to be pushed out at an expedient rate. hopefully 343i at least delivers on the selling point of infinite having the most extensive halo campaign.
