What is the proper Halo style?

I noticed something all the way back in Halo Reach. With the addition of armor abilities, Halo was forever changed. I got the feeling within my first 2 weeks of playing Halo Reach, that there are two types of players. Run and gun and hide and sneak. I for one am a run and gun player, who almost never sit still. I guess for someone who never really play Halo 3 online, the few times I did play it seemed like everyone played in the run and gun style. So I was wondering which style of play is the proper, official, god given style in which Halo was meant to be played.

Neither.

If you challenge all the time, you get -Yoinked!-.
If you camp all the time, you never accomplish anything.

knowing when to push and not to challenge makes a good player from a bad player, but halo is the arena fps

I still think the objective, main slayer and support styles are the main styles.

In the words of the Chief “Mix things up a little”. Might I suggest that as a third poll choice?

Games are made to be played as you wish, Halo is no exception.

For me it depends on the weapon I’m using at the time. If I’ve picked up a sniper rifle I tend to stand back from the action and try and scope in for headshots but if I’m using an Assault Rifle I will be in close quarters spraying and praying and punching guys in the face.

Balls out, screaming, and using a Storm Rifle. Anything else is just undignified.

Neither

It’s all about balance.

neither.

just gotta do whats right at the moment given the circumstances. play smart yo.

If you think Halo is made up of only two play styles, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Anyway, I almost never stick to one playstyle. Once I figure one out, I move on to the next (avoiding strategies that I dislike or that I’ve tried in the past and considered unfair or unbalanced).

Yup.

A couple of elements really - Positive, Team and Reactive

Positive - strategy to obtain map control, positioning, weapons

Team co-ordination - team shot, objective pull, team member assignment (captain, objective player, slayer, support)

Reactive - Being able to adapt to overcome your opponents abilities, skills and general flow of a match

Not much to add here – each encounter should dictate your strategy.

This is why I like loadouts and AAs - your opponent can be sporting any combination thereof and you need to know how to handle 'em. Keep an open mind, and challenge yourself to learn and try new things.

I run and punch.

Also, I suck, so I wouldn’t recommend my play style to others.

It doesn’t matter which path you follow - there will always be people out there who will think that your style of play makes you a:

  1. noob
  2. idiot
  3. cheater
  4. or any other term denoting an individual who is “doing it wrong.”

Using a mix of play-styles is the way to go, I love running and gunning with a BR but I do like the put some distance in with the DMR from time to time as well.
I also crouch, wait for the red blip, and do a two-shot beat down when its required.

However, don’t take my advice as if its the best thing in the world, because like Maximus IL:

> I suck

I would say just do both and witch ever one you succeed more stick with.

Like someone said above. Knowing when to challenge vs when not to. Knowing the right time to push, pull flag, slay, etc. looking for advantages vs trying to out gun. Using your environment, wall peaking, using good line of sights that give you shots on enemy but allow minimal shots on you.

Halo is more than just running around with a good shot. Halo is about opportunities and advantages. Ppl in halo 3 had a screen shot by player lunchbox who said - a good player wins a 1v1, a great player avoids one.

H4 is a lot about using numbers and call outs with good positioning.
