Well, first I think the flood will return to test humanity if they are worthy the mantle.
But what if we fail and the flood kills everyone. What if we arent worthy? So there is/are my question/s (in bad english): What if the flood would win and would kill everyone. What would the Precusors get out of this? Pain? Is it just pain or is there a bigger “plan” behind it?
Sorry for my bad english but I hope you understand the point I tryed to make.
I would definitely like the Flood to return in my opinion. If 343 Industries can let canon allow it, I would love to fight the Flood again in Halo on Xbox One.

Nice but that wasnt the question…
And yes, canon would allow it as far as we know.
I think they want to finish wiping out the Forerunners and continue turning humanity into Precursors.
It isn’t just going to be an extinction event, humanity will be tested to see if they’re worthy of the Mantle, and I quote “whether or not they will also fail has not yet been decided.”
The community seems to want Firefight to return as well as the Flood. What if they’re combined? Flood firefight…“Outbreak” or something. THAT would cool.
I don’t think the Precursors or at least their Flood descendants care about the Mantle anymore. From what we’ve seen of the Gravemind from the games and the novels it looks like the Precursors believe nobody is worthy anymore except possibly humanity. Even then the Flood was driven to attack Earth and destroy humanity and was only stopped (ironically) by Truth’s reckless attack on the Ark to activate the Halos.
At this point I think the Flood are dangerous simply because they just want to conquer and have no interest in giving anyone their Mantle.

So the flood are just space zomies? I always thought there was a “plan” behind the flood in halo 1/2/3. Well you are right but I think the flood in halo 5/6 will be different. It wont just be a flood outbreak from a halo ring again. More like an invasion from outside the milky way… you know with a “plan”… and a master.
I think the idea IS to kill everyone.

If you can call Cthulhu “just a space zombie”, sure. The plan is to make us suffer.

But why humanity? The forerunners fought the precursors and killed them. Why should the hole galaxy suffer?
