What is the point of random ordinance drops?

Why are the weapon drops random in normal matchmaking? What use does this serve?

…Stupid Boy…

They serve as a more realistic reason on why weapons spawn on the map. Its just a new way for weapons to show up instead of just popping out of thin air. Also they states that they are not totally “random”

To promote map flow/movement, and knowing the entire map.

With static weapon spawns, combat will likely revolve around them. Some parts of the map wil rarely get used.

With these Ordinance Drops, there is no one part of the map used most. Players will have to move around and adapt to the different combat areas. Skilled players will learn to use the entire map to their advantage. They’ll know the best way to get to an Ordinance Drop, or move around the map fluently.

it’s not completely random. The ordnance always drop in the same place, the weapons are just scattered. It keeps a different flavor during the matches, but it still lets you know which is which, so it’s not like map control in competitive play is completely out

Yes but how will skilled players learn to use the entire map to their advantage if the drops are random and they have no idea what it’s going to be?

Yes I know it will still be in set-locations, and how does it let you know which is which? And what do you mean map control is not completely out?

They’re the ones that get to the drops first and get away with it. The random drops, along with PV, basically kill camping unless a team just ignores the weapon and vehicle drops for the entire game.

Drops are going to be as random as King of the Hill if they announced the hills next location prior to its movement. Think of multiple pre-chosen locations and the game chooses before hands. Pro players will have to learn these locations and influence them in the same way they learn and influence spawns

They aren’t completely random.

They are pre-determined locations. As in, there are a bunch of locations the weapon can spawn in. But they are randomly selected.

A skilled player can learn where these points are, and learn the best or fastest way to get there. When the warning comes up, they’ll know the best way to go.

To destroy map control. Add randomness and allow casuals to have a chance.

Map Control matters.

The more control you have over the map, the better chance you have of getting to the Ordinance first.

If I recall, during the initial drops atleast, you’ll see the weapon’s avatar on the way-point.

But initial fears (not directed towards you, I should add,) was that these ‘randomization’ would break map control. The truth is it makes it more like KotH. People will scramble for the power weapons first, battles will be won, butts will be kicked.

Except it won’t destroy map control.

The more control you have over the map, the better chance you’ll have at getting the Ordinance first. Map control will still be important.

And it doesn’t really give casuals a chance. Sure, now everyone knows where a weapon is. But you still have to get to it and fight over it. It’ll still come down to the skill of whoever is fighting for the Ordinance.

I suppose that’s okay. It’d make much more sense to have the weapons be in a pre-set order for each location on each map. That way there’d be some more element of skill required in previous Halo games but I suppose this is okay. The element of map-control is more difficult to understand this time though.

But the more skilled will still prosper.

Its a new experience, yes. Reimagined looks on map control.

Its still important, but in a different, or more expanded way.

There is no skill in having weapons placed randomly around the map. Especially if they are random weapons.

Randomness is not skill. Look at bloom.

That’s awesome, I just hope we can choose which power weapons we want in the map though. Judging from every bit of info, we have the SAW, Rockets, Sniper, ScatterShot, Shotgun, Fuel Rod, Beam Rifle, Rail-Gun, Spartan Laser, Promethean Sniper and much more.
That’s 1/11 chance of getting a rocket. I don’t like that, at all.

Thanks for the help guys

This has got to be the stupidest post I have ever read. All the random drops do is randomize the strategy and flow of Halo multiplayer, its not like they randomly spawn in shotgun tunnel, they drop in a variety of locations randomly doing absolutely nothing but randomizing the strategy and flow of the game. This is disgusting to me, as a 10+ year Halo veteran how warped the power item system has become.
