Since the dawn of multiplayer games there was always one reason why people kept playing. And that very same reason is why people get good in multiplayer games in the first place. To get better than your friends and pwn. Who remembers playing Quake, Unreal Tournament, hell even Goldeneye and just demolish your friends and others over and over. It made you feel like a God among men, but alas with strict true-skill the feeling of being a bad -Yoink- is long gone. You can’t play with friends anymore if your invisible true-skill is high because it makes the gun not fun for both you and your lesser skilled friends. True-skill reminds me a lot of communism. It sounds fair on paper, but realistically it becomes abused and just makes everything much harder than it has to be. I plea to Microsoft and 343 and make the True-skill system less strict. Make playing online multiplayer fun again!

I hate how the only thing you have to really look at to judge how “good” you are is K/D and W/L. Sure, that’s ok but theoretically everyone converges closer and closer to 1 if the ranking system works.

I don’t follow your logic.
You argue that skilled players must have the opportunity to abuse less skilled players but then complain you and your unskilled friends don’t have fun because you get humiliated by skilled opponents?
You don’t get better unless you are placed into a match with superior players and then find ways to beat them. Playing against n00bs, sure it makes you feel awesome. But it’s going to get boring and eventually you will want more of a challenge.

Yup. In fact, playing vs noobs all day often makes players lose their good “habits”. Playing a lot vs noobs is always a good way to ensure that you’ll probably get pwned in your next game against players of similar or higher skill than you.

I never played social playlists since Halo first came to XBL. It was never fun beating up noobs all day, but if that is what some people like to do they should be able to do it.
This is probably one of the greatest achievements of the 1-50 ranked playlists. It allowed the tryhard nerds like me to go in matchmaking and find competitive matches with competitive teamates and competitive opponents. And the normals could go into social playlists and pwn all day with friends and have fun.
Adding some invisible rank will be a non-solution.
I get what you are saying. When I get off work sometimes I don’t feel like trying my but off as soon as I get in a match. Which is why there should be a Social Playlist and a Rank Playlist like in Halo 2 and Halo 3. You can start off with random people in social and do good or bad depending on what you happen to get and then once you are warmed up try hard in Ranked to get your rank up. But you know how 343 is, you can label anyone as bad so everyone gets no rank and no social.
