Has 343 or Microsoft ever explained why the game is not playable offline?
There are often so many topics on this forum wondering where the playerbase went… personally I think it’s things like no offline campaign and no splitscreen co-op that have gutted the core community that loves Halo for it’s… you know… Halo.

No word officially, probably just a “hard choice” they had to make like cancelling Coop in favour of a “free” battle pass full of content cut from the other two.

Data collection most probably. Helps them gauge “engagement” with their product.

Cosmetic unlocks from the campaign need to be verified as legit and not just people hacking to get all cosmetics unlocked without the proper prerequsites.

I guess Microsoft doesn’t like offline/local gaming.

I travel for work and sometimes I take my xbox. Halo is a go to when it comes to playing a campaign.
The fact that infinite does not do this offline is something I really wish I knew before buying the steelback edition.
It’s like buying a blank disc. What was the point?

They aren’t. Hard choices come up all the time in development. Is it worth spending time on X when we could do Y? Everything has an opportunity cost and developers have to cut content and features all the time in order to hit bigger priorities. Offline co-op is easily one of those if for example dev time was needed to make online co-op work.
Prominent prior example: Halo 2’s ending. That got tossed in favor of the cliffhanger in order for time to be prioritized to the rest of the campaign. Again, hard choices are how games get made.
Live service games are meant to be the solution to this, they have no end state and are funded endlessly through micro. Either tell us that budget restrictions are keeping you from hiring staff, or that you do not care enough to keep co-op. They publicly pledged to keep it, and hyped the game as having it, even when they promised to have it in after launch.

I’ve never tried to play campaign offline, but what you guys are saying wouldn’t surprise me. 343 wants us to be connected to internet so they can constantly spy on our lives and see everything we do, kind of like how free mobile games want us to be connected to WiFi so that we can be bombarded by ads and they can keep their revenue.
