Cost effective ways?
Turrets won’t put you in an economy hole.
Building hogs is what you should be doing, and a turret + 2-3 hogs will stop most everything.
This is pretty basic, there’s more you can do.
Would be much easier to say something more in-depth if you specified which sort of rush you intend on countering and with which heroes.
You need to be way more specific, like A Large Brute said.
Is it 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3? Is is UA? Where’ve you spawned? Who’re you playing as? Who’re they playing as? When did the go Reactor/Temple?
Also, cost effective is a lot more complex than just saying I spent less than you, therefore I’m winning. It depends on the damage done, the timing of the damage, who’s got what to rebound with, who’s got the higher income, etc. I’ll be honest, xmx900, it’s nice to see you genuinely wanting to get better at the game. Most people cry about rushing being OP and then quit. Fair play for putting in the effort.

That’s a bit too generalized. Turrets are very rarely viable in anything but 1s, and even in 1s they can still put you in an economy hole if you build too many. For example in a UNSC mirror, if you sacrifice hog lead to build turrets, sure I won’t be able to base damage you but I can just use my hog lead to clear an expo, or gain hook control.
If you use turrets correctly they’re fine in 1s, it’s just I can see many players seeing that and then thinking that throwing four railgun turrets on their base to stop a hog rush is a good idea.

In 2v2, a Turret usually wins air lead against a Brute. Queue up a Summit in the front, protected by a Turret, and the Brute’s not gonna have the DPS alone to kill the Summit before the Turret puts a hell of a hurt on him. If he Vortexes it, then good for him wasting his money hitting my Turret, Summit and Citadel all at once.
I would’ve already caught the enemy Hogs by Raging, and now my Arby’s having the time of his life. Even if I don’t get a Summit up, for whatever reason, I’ve got Rage to go to.
I should have been more clear.
A single turret can serve a pretty good purpose in 1s and 2s, but rarely 3s. I’d much rather see someone focus on my turret instead of my supply pads. One turret can make someone with Gunner hogs (4 or less) rethink the rush. As we all know, there are quite a few misconceptions among players in the game about how damage works. I have seen, multiple times, kids with 5 Gren. hogs pull away from my base because I have a single turret in the back.
And yes, you might lose the hog lead in a UNSC mirror, but I wasn’t talking about high TS mirrors, because it’s safe to assume that the OP wants help in low TS against rush spammers.
