Generally, you don’t want it to take more than 9-15 seconds to get from one end of the map to the other (assuming there’s a straight path) with sprint. At least if we talk about Halo maps, the small to medium sized maps have traditionally been designed in such a way as to have it take about that amount of time. In Halo 5 this translates to 300 to 500 units in Forge. So, unless you plan on having a fast way to get around the map, keeping it within a 500x500 square seems like something to try.
First off, be wary of using 343’s standard for size as your own. They have adopted a pretty rigid set of parameters for what makes an arena map and if you happen to like very fast, very in-your-face game play then that’s fine. But 4v4 game play shouldn’t have to be only one way. That said…
Pick any arena map you like, open it in forge and sprint across it with a stop watch (or just count seconds in your head). You’ll find they’re mostly all the same, whatever the actual number may turn out to be. My guess is that if you start out with 256 x 256 floor then you’re not very far off the mark. Most maps might be a little bigger than that but not by much.

I was just needing an idea to work around. I agree it shouldn’t only have one way of design.
I have never finished a proper build with exception to a 1v1 map I made on reach.
It’s a good thing I asked cause 500x500 is bigger than I thought.

There’s quite a bit of variance to what is a mid-sized map. I gave 300 units as the lower bound, and 500 as the upper bound. If you want something from the smaller end, then you can use something around 300x300, or 400x400, or something else like that.
EDIT: I think the important thing to stress is that it’s about the times. Map design is all about timing: how fast can the player get from here to there. So you really get the best idea of how big your map should be by trying to feel for yourself what sort of time seems good for getting from one side of the map to the other, and then basing the appropriate distances on that.
