I think thats if you have custom lighting for your map and want to see what it looks like? I dont know, I havent messed around with lighting all that much to know.

That’s what it is. It generates the lighting like it did in H4. They explained in on the stream

Bake lights is basically to generate the lighting and see how it works however it takes a while for them to generate. If you choose Spartan mode without bake lights it drops you straight into Spartan mode without generating lighting.

trick is, the (bake lights) would reflect a player’s view including lighting effects and other items in-game, something we already had with 4. The new mode dubbed spartan mode (that’s it-no extra characters) is there for you to make quick changes due to physics, gameplay, etc; without loading all of those extra features.
