Is there a link for a guideline that talks about score keeping in Warzone? I can’t even keep track of how many games i’ve been in where my team holds two of the bases and the boss kills are about even and my team still loses by about 1000 - 850.
You get 2 points for each kill (I believe this was the new change in the last update), and varying amounts of VP (victory points) for each boss. Bases are only required for map control. The reward for capturing all the bases is a chance to destroy the enemy core which results in an instant victory regardless of how many points each side has.
I’m pretty sure you also get points for controlling bases. For your scenario, your team is likely not killing the last boss which I think is 200 or 250 points, but I don’t remember exactly since it’s been forever since I played WZ.
Some of the easier bosses have 25 point bounties while the more legendary difficult bosses will have 150 points.
Spartan kill - 2 points. Adds up over time.
Standard boss - 25. Useful for getting ahead early.
Legendary boss - 100. Mid-game. Do not let enemy take.
Mythic boss - 200. Basically an instant win if you’re not being crushed.
Core destruction - 1000. Literal instant win.
Controlling bases gives you one point per base every (amount of time) (probably every second). If you keep 2 bases through most of the game, you catch up to the other team by one point per second. If you don’t focus on boss kills and spartan kills, the enemy will earn points much faster.
I think it’s around 1 point per base for every 3-4 seconds it’s held. I’ll look tonight and confirm it though.

You get 1 point every 5 seconds for each base that you hold.
Player vs. AI Point Breakdown (Bosses spawn every two minutes unless the area is still occupied by a previously unkilled AI boss)
Boss Kills: 25 pts
Legendary Boss Kills: 100 pts
Mythic Boss Kills: 200 pts
Player vs. Player Breakdown
Kill = 2 pts
Base Control Breakdown
One Base Control = 1 pt every 5 seconds
Two Base Control = 2 pt every 5 seconds
Three Base Control = 3 pt every 5 seconds
Enemy Home Core Destruction = 1000 point automatic win
First to 1000 points wins.
People say play the objective which in their eyes usually means go for AIs. But you have to play the objective that is going to give you the highest probability to win. The point breakdown shows you there are multiple objectives in Warzone - Boss Kills, PvP Kills, and Base Control. If your team is winning 900-850 and you triple cap the enemy, it makes absolutely 0 sense to turn around and try to kill the final 200 point boss if you are winning. Play the objective that will win you the game, not the objective that gives the enemy a chance to steal on away.
I feel Warzone is a rather underrated gametype. I thoroughly enjoy it. Its like a mix of Control (capture/hold objective/control points) Slayer, and Firefight all rolled into one. It has a little something for everyone. It’s been a while since I have played…almost a year so I have missed it a lot. Shame they didn’t had more options for objectives types…like a version that includes a CTF mode. As much as I am more of a slayer/firefight player over objectives, I think that would give it an interesting twist where you could score extra points for capturing your opponents flag(s).
I think Warzone is the premiere PvPvE experience in gaming today. I think all things considered it is packaged very well and it is my favorite thing about Halo 5 multiplayer. Play it often and its a lot of fun discovering the various req combos that really rek…I am sorry I couldn’t help my self.
The scoring system (which many have outlined) I think tends to give both teams a fighting chance if a team can either manage to hold more bases OR kill more bosses. Sure snowballs happen but the point system from kills and bosses certainly allow 1 base teams to stay in it and even win though I would say in my observations typically the team that hold 2 bases the most amount of time typically wins.
Sort of like possesion times in the NFL.

Thanks for the breakdown.
With all the time I’ve spent playing warzone, I’ve never taken notice of how often you get a point for holding a base.

No problem. Eventually you’ll play enough games to know the best methods for killing bosses. Different weapons and vehicles do better against different bosses. With that being said, controlling 2 bases provides a HUGE advantage now that games don’t last as long. Rarely does the 200 point mythic boss matter anymore, because the game is close to finishing before it is spawned or dies. So focus map control and bases for the first 5 minutes, the AI’s for 10 minutes, and finish the game by getting slays.
Its heavies please don’t revive old topics.
