What is Rocket race's gametype?

Is rocket race a KOTH game and if it is, will I get a win for the KOTH victory commendation if I succeed as winner in the game?

I believe it is made possible by Multi Team Ricochet.

Rocket Race was introduced in Halo 3 to show off the mongoose. It is a multi-team playlist were you and a buddy would ride a mongoose together. One of you drives to checkpoints while the other uses a rocket launcher to take out the other mongooses. It’s loads of fun, but I haven’t seen it in Halo 4. :frowning:

It’s coming.

I think the OP meant which objective gametype was used to create it in Halo 4 in regards to earning commendations, not what the gametype actually was.

If so, wouldn’t this technically make it an Oddball variant since Ricochet is Oddball based? And wouldn’t you need to carry a ball to score if it was Ricochet based?

I think it was created using KotH as a base gametype (namely the Crazy King variant) with tweaks added, such as 1 point scored per hill before it moves and having to be on a vehicle in order to score (this last one is just a guess).

In the Multiteam Ricochet gametype, you have the ability to set almost any object as the ‘ball’. In this case, Warthogs. I would imagine the ‘hills’ are actually goals.

I did not know that. Thanks for clarifying

They haven’t said what they’re doing and, as always, won’t until a time of their choosing.

The instructions that we posted were just a method of creating Race from Ricochet for players to enjoy playing around with. We are not at all saying this is the exact way that we’ll be creating the Race game type for December’s rotational playlists. As we are several months out, those details will be posted closer to the release of the playlists.

Just want to say I’m really excited that they are finally putting race in Halo 4. Having a LAN party just after Xmas so this is coming in a great time. Hope to see Rocket Hog Race or something similar, loved that mode in Reach.

Multi-Team Ricochet can mimic the exact playability of Rocket Race, however, that’s not how 343 is implementing it.

343 actually is releasing an Official Race gametype the beginning of December as one of the Rotational Playlists. After that 2 weeks, Rocket Race will take it’s place. This means RR will come from the default Race gametype at that time.
