What is lacking in Halo 5's art style?

I know that Halo 4 and Halo 5 looked very different in comparison to the classic Halo games. This is partly due to the countless redesigns but also just visually. Is it the lighting? The textures? I can’t really tell and it annoys me.I would appreciate it if somebody could explain to me what made Halo 2/3/ODST visually different from 343’s Halo. I do know that Sanghelios looked pretty Halo-ish in Halo 5. And the beta version of Regret also looked very Halo, so I do think that lighting plays a big role.

It’s the lack of grunge and dirt. Everything in Halo 1/2/3/Reach/ODST was when humanity was at their lowest and everything was either destroyed or quickly put together or left unattended and gathered dust. after Halo 3, humanity was at the top of the pyramid and now everything is made of plastic and dusted off constantly.

It sure looks very plasticy, everything.

I hate how the covenant texture in Forge have such small symbols… I should look like this.

In that image, the symbols are on the orange walls, but still. Why are they so small? >_>

I really loved the inside of the Covenant ship in Reach where Jorge also died. The control room or something was marvelous!

I just think Halo 5 in general feels to smooth and sporty. The Spartan colors are way too vibrant and bright and their armor is glossy and perfect. They are soldiers, not wrestlers.

there is a difference between 1-reach, and 4-5. because 4 and 5 are simulations/ war “games” which is why the “team colors” pop out more as well as everything else. halo 5 in my opinion, looks like a brighter verison of 3, if you view your spartans hands, it actually looks like a suit, instead of an armored hand plate. if you mean the single player side of things, i think it looks cleaner and sharper, but has a reach-odst feel to it. people are over reacting, it doesn’t look that different, just brighter

Well general designs have become too bright, the Covenant re-designs have got worse, there is a lack of variety of mapping and lack of dirty and gritty area’s. Even the general atmosphere of the game feels like it’s going for a sportsmanship and not a dark Halo game like that I would have expected from the original.

they are soldiers, playing a sport. hence “war games” from halo 4. which carried over to halo 5.

Which I think is the dumbest decision I’ve ever witnessed in game design. At least Halo 4’s armor’s weren’t over saturated.

they needed something to segway into that sweet sweet pizza skin  but in all seriousness, untill the infinity storyline is over, (which isn’t happening untill halo 7 IF THAT) the whole “war game/ warzone simulation” more so now that they have introduced weapons skins and a literally racecar warthog, is here to stay.

what better way to sell an esport game, by having the people you control, basically playing a sport lol, halo has turned into a shooter-sport apparently XD

It’s less to do with the armors being oversaturated and more to do with the fact that they don’t have shaders. Literally, the spartan models don’t reflect or retain any amount of ambient light. They don’t get darker when they are in a dark area. There is no trace of a shadow on their armor. They’re flat planes of bright color.

I noticed this too, mostly that Spartans don’t react to shading well.

Scratches and dirt, I get it’s all part of a simulation now but a couple sliders similar to DOOM’s armor customization would make a world of difference for these new armors, personally I’d love to make my spartan look like he’s been through some rough battles, not like he just came out of a car wash

Consistency?
Halsey, palmer, Lasky all became different people
Between 4 and 5.
.
I know cortana always changes but the “past” cut scenes, and her un armored appearance aren’t the same as 4. (Body or face)

…too many…
Armors with tons of white paint…
Ridiculous colored undersuits…
…not enough…
Designs based on originals.(ce-reach)
(Structures, armors, canon…)

It’s because in the old halos humanity was fighting for survival and was putting everything together as quick as possible. Now we’re the big dogs so there’s no weight in anything it’s just go here and light -Yoink- up. Everything’s all super clean and glassy like the sponge on future where everything was chrome.

It is the lack of growing, and the lighting can be a bit too much. The lighting kinda makes everything glow too much as if Halo were to be some sort of fashion critique. Classic halo games were more grungier.

In my opinion, the older games like Halo 1 or Halo 3 also had cooler, better styled maps. I loved a lot of those maps. All of these art styles were taken away though so other younger kids would want to play halo because it didn’t look as ground or violent, which annoys me.
