What is it with Ghosts?

This has been bugging me for a while now…

If I get in a Ghost then the majority of the time I’m either destroyed in seconds by the other team, it literally takes forever to kill when shooting an opponent on foot, or my splatter attempts simply don’t do any damage to other players. When its the other way around, Ghosts are flying around as if the Ghost and driver have extra armour, I literally die instantly if they shoot me and pretty guaranteed to get splattered. I know the difference between a standard, Sword and Ultra Ghost, but these things happen even in standard Ghosts…and for what its worth, the same happens to me in Banshees.

I don’t know if this inconsistency or due to latency, but its very frustrating as it can’t be down to a “skill” issue…or am I missing something? Anyone else experiencing this type of thing or is it just me?

I used to be pretty good at jumping out of the way of them, but I noticed on Halo 5 that I’m getting splattered a whole lot more. Or maybe my reflexes are just slowing down.

I do really wish they had kept the feature from Halo 4 where hijacking a ghost causes the previous driver to be momentarily disoriented. Lately if my hijack doesn’t kill them, their immediate reversal kills me.

Splatter damage is way too high in the game.

It’s got to be either a skill or a latency issue. Don’t see what else it can be tbh.

I know what you mean though, I’ve had times when I can’t seem to get the kill on some spartan that’s jumping all over the place. Another tactic that’s been used well against me is for them to hide behind a rock and just keep circling, I’ve learnt to abandon the chase as I risk losing the ghost if I rush in.

And if you spend too long trying to kill one stubbon spartan, then it leaves your back exposed and you’ll be taking BR shots left and right and be in all sorts of trouble. So maybe try to pick off players that are out in the open and have nowhere to hide, the ghost excels at that.

I found this in another thread:

Now I’m not saying the Ghost (or any other vehicle) needs a nerf but there appears to be clear inconsistencies with vehicles…I’ve had the (very) occasional game myself where I’ve been untouchable in a Ghost or Scorpion so I don’t know if this is down to the players or the connection.

I hear you, I have the exact same feeling. With the exception o one game where I had a great time in an ultra ghost. Mostly, I´m dead meat if I decide to get one out of the garage. Opponents seem to do just fine. Don´t get me started on tanks and wraiths. And banshees…well, I wish I could unlock one to begin with!!!

Yeah i know. I got an video when i ghost drives up on my brothers back and flies out of the map. I then got a few shots in him to get the kill.

There can’t be that much skill to pointing the Ghost reticule at a player and pulling the trigger though surely?! If I’m dying in a couple of seconds but it takes much longer for me to kill another player (even if that player is in open ground) then it can only be a latency thing?

I bet its latency. We all know that when your pointing the reticule on an enemy its not where he really is anyway so no kill…

Your probably just going in a straight line, as you hi-jack try changing direction, it doesn’t stop you hi-jacking but once your in control it will make their attempts to get back on or kill you harder!?

Try using a Ghost Ultra? They have extra armour, better/longer boost, and the explosive shots. And they’re only lvl 4 REQ. Might be that some opponents were using it, in the situation you described? But I try to use Ultras when I have them because they are so much better.

Nah as stated in my OP, I know the difference between all 3 but this situation occurs in either of them. I was literally dead in under 10 seconds when I pulled an Ultra Ghost last night thinking I was about to go on a rampage…but it was very short lived! The Ultra Ghosts are more effective in getting kills as there appears to be quite a bit of splash damage from the explosive rounds, so this in theory provides a greater hit radius and would be consistent with the latency theory.
