What Is It? EXPLAIN...Please?

Hey Guys

'Nother Question for you’s

On Various Topics I occasionally see a post “Bump”
And then the next poster says “don’t bump” (or stuff like that)

Curious,
What Is It?,
How Do You Do It?
Why Is It So Bad?

To bump, is to take a thread that’s not on the first page/on the top of the first page.
There are two ways of doing this, But just posting a post saying “Bump” which is thought as spam, because you’re not adding to the discussion, you’re just posting the word “bump” and bumping the thread to the top.
And the other is to post useful information, like if I was to go to one of my old threads, one that was speculation about some of the features of Forge, and I posted a post pointing out what features have been confirmed in, and which ones have been confirmed out, and some details and source links. That way of bumping adds to the discussion, rarely get’s reported as “Necro posting” or bumping.

But there are limits to what can be bumped and not get reported for.
-Threads that are over a certain age.
–If someone posts in a thread saying “I’m worried that there is no Forge Mode”, and it was posted over 4 months ago, and someone bumped it saying “Have you been living under a rock, go watch the RTX Halo 4 panel videos!” That would count as a report able bump.
-Old threads that are the same as some newer and more up-to-date threads.
–If I went back and posted in the thread a few months back kicking around the idea of having a flood mode in MP, and bumped it with a useful post, I would be reported, thread locked, most likely my post edited by mods, and directed to one of the newer threads.
-Old threads of touchy subjects
– IE: MLG, Competitive vs Casual, Disable Party Chat, Halo vs COD, or any other “heated” topic.

When posting in a thread that is a few pages back, try to read the first 2 or 3 pages of posts, and the last 1 or 2 pages of posts, check the dates on the posts, get an idea of the topic at hand, and rather it’s a level headed discussion, or a debate between two or more people over some mondain subject, another sign to watch for, is moderator edited posts, they’re normally full of red text and sometimes spoiler tags.

I normally don’t mind bumping threads, but as long as the post is discussion worthy, and the poster is aware of how old the post is, and isn’t bringing up an old heated topic.

So it’s basically just trying to revive old threads?
Fair enough

Well thanks for answering my question!
