Ever since the winter update, ranked matchmaking has been absolutely horrible. I managed to hit Onyx, and as soon as I did, I started to get matched with low diamond/platinum teammates. While still going against 1600+ Onyx players (my skill level) and my win/loss rate has dropped to around 20%.
When I play with a full four-man team, I get matched against the same 1600+ onyx (which is fine), but can’t seem to get a server below 100ms ping despite the supposed “fixes” to the servers and ping fluctuation.
All this is on top of the worst desync, ghost shots, and blank melees since launch. Is anyone else having this same experience?

Yes. Between the horrible matchmaking and the desync, hit registration, and server issues, the game is the worst it’s been since launch.
Halo Infinite was at its best during the pre launch flights. It seems like every update since then has made the game play worse.
Broken game still broken.
My last batch of games;
won 6 in a row
lost 6 in a row
won 3 in a row
lost 2 in a row
And you know this but when you play with randoms it’lll happen. Also, change your search parameters to Local.
Matchmaking quality is poor due to small population. It also makes CSRs wonky, so the diamonds you’re playing with may have a much higher MMR.
And yes, game stability is very poor with collision, hit reg, higher ping, and desync/packet loss even at reasonable ping,. There’s also a lot more quitting I’ve noticed, and the CSR algorithm doesn’t appear to adjust gains/losses for quits, so that’s messing things up as well.
The game has been in a Ranked death spiral for a while. Wasn’t stable enough at launch, isn’t stable enough now, and the addition of a Forge map or two after a full year wasn’t nearly enough to bring people back.
I am the furthest thing from a nooby here, my dude, I am fully aware, and I have mine set to local.
This is incorrect. The game still remains at a decent day-to-day player population. It is currently sitting at number 17 on the top Xbox games list.
I definitely have the highest CSR in my lobbies. I’ve been 1700 Onyx since launch until the winter update caused more server/desync issues, and matchmaking got worse.
I dunno then, since this winter update and switching to local its been the best it’s ever been for me.
I get the occasional wonky thing happening like sword swinging into someone and they’re fine or weird melee connects, but otherwise the game plays pretty smoothly now.
Working from HaloTracker, around 50,000-60,000 have ranked in since update. Compare to COD, Apex, etc which have literally millions of players. The ranked population is poor.
