To You?
Many who dislike Halo 4 state it is because it does not play like halo to them.
However that begs the question what is Halo to you?
I have been playing Halo since CE when I was 12 (Or something like that)
I’m 21 now, I grew up with Halo, as it grew up with me.
Halo to me is a few things, Skill, For example A single skilled player with a magnum can take out lesser skilled enemies with power weapons.
It’s not an unfair game. Even with loadouts it’s really not.
In fact because of ordinances it is even more even.
It’s nice to not start a game and have one team hog all the power weapons on the map. How is that fair?
I think the ordinance system works the best on small maps.
However on larger maps I do think the traditional weapons on the map does work better.
So all in all for me at least Halo is still halo.
For everyone else, what is Halo to you?
Halo to me is were every player starts off at an equal footing in terms of movement, spawns, weapons and abilities.
Halo 4’s loadout system kills that entirely. You can choose to spawn with a DMR, Camo and AA efficiency which instantly puts them ahead anyone who spawns with a Battle Rifle, Mobility and Thruster Pack.
Ordnance is another horrible issue. You claim that you hate how one team can hog all the power weapons? Well in prior Halo games, they deserved them because everyone started off equal. But in Halo 4, I could run to the top middle area of Solace, grab the Fuel Rod Cannon, get seven kills and then have a Beam Rifle in my ordnance.
Once I get that Beam Rifle, I get another seven kills roughly, and I suddenly have an Incineration Cannon in my ordnance. How is that fair when all we’re doing is making the “rich, richer” essentially?
Then we move to random ordnance. It completely defeats the purpose of map control. In the past, you’d want to lock down areas were power weapons are going to spawn, like Rockets on The Pit or Sword on Midship, but thanks to random ordnance, you could lock down any area on the map, and one player could simply spawn and have a Binary Rifle spawn next to them.
So to say again, everyone in the game needs to start off even with predictable power weapon spawns (like the Rockets on Landfall & Monolith), and limit the loadout system completely.
first response get it right.
what is halo to me?
Its game I can joke around in just like every other game I play on even when times are bad. As long as I have fun playing I love the game and I don’t mind losing as its ok to lose as something will still be earned from it.
Well, Halo to me is a piece of coding, that is capable of making me happy when i play it.
Its hard to sound smart when i havent slept well in a week.
What is Halo to me ?
Halo is a video game series that was started by Bungie , now with 343 Industries,
Halo is a video game series with a great story,
Halo is a video game series with a great multiplayer,
Halo is a video game series with great customization,
Halo is a video game series with a lot of replay value,
Halo is a video game series with a great soundtrack,
Halo is a video game series that I really like and I will surely play it till the end.
To me, what it means to be a Halo game is that it’s at it’s core an arena shooter, everything balanced and neutral, spawns, weapons, power ups, objectives.
And even more importantly, Halo is a game where I can goof off and still play seriously, that i can joke around with friends in game and still win, or lose, but have fun.
I hate these kinds of threads because any simple answer provokes a negative response.
Everyone’s experience with Halo is unique. Everyone has a unique reason for liking one release and hating some other one.
What’s even more important, if Halo is still Halo to me, does that mean that if you believe Halo is not Halo any more you’re wrong? If I tell you you’re wrong will you accept that?
If you will, you shouldn’t play Halo.
I say Halo is still Halo, but it’s not as Halo as Halo CE, but more Halo than ODST or Reach. Flame me if you will, but Halo is about Cortana and Master Chief, not ODSTs and SPARTAN IIIs. ODST, Halo Wars and Reach are all about as Halo as any other Halo game, but none can be as Halo as Halo:CE, which is the standard by which any other Halo should be judged.
You are the only one that can judge whether the current game meets that standard, or any other standard YOU have. My standards differ from yours, so they shouldn’t matter to you. If you think Halo is no longer Halo, then it’s not. Otherwise, it is.
To me, Halo (and any video game) is it’s story and lore, not it’s gameplay. When people say Halo is an arena game, well that’s an arena game, you could play another game which functions by the same rules Halo did in its early days, but that doesn’t make it Halo, just another arena game.
So to answer your question OP, yes, I feel Halo is still Halo.
Halo is a successful video game franchise started by bungie with addicting multiplayer gameplay and a gripping story involving Spartan 117 the Master Chief. I grew up with it and it means alot to me I hope that Halo games will continue to be made until the day I die.
Can I suggest something OP? I think that the question is quite ambiguous, and it would help your thread to specify what you are referring to.
Are we talking about what people love about Halo? Or are we talking specifically about what actually defines Halo’s gameplay in multiplayer?
It’s important because I can already see that people who incidentally like Halo 4, will go for the “Yes, Halo is still Halo!” option, when all they could really mean is that they like the game.
But liking the game, and the game having the same core mechanics as other Halo’s are two different things.
As for the multiplayer gameplay, I’m still figuring out how to really define what makes Halo, Halo.
But so far I know that map control and equal starts are two very important parts. I know that balance and movement are also important parts, but I haven’t yet figured out specfically how to word these things.
I’ve seen others describe it perfectly, but I can’t always remember what was said.
soon as they removed weapons from the map it stopped being halo.
ordnance, perks, all that made halo feel very un-halo to me.

On top of this, there are a few more things needed for the Halo formula:
The first, and biggest, is that players need to be empowered off spawn. None of this over-reliance on teamshot to the point of players needing to be attached at the hip to succeed. An individual’s power has been greatly downplayed in recent titles, but a good player could do well on their own in CE.
Another is that a player should be able to attack at any time. This means no sprint. Halo is a run-and-gun game, where you shouldn’t have to lose your ability to shoot just to move faster. Basically, sprint isn’t Halo.
Neither is the lack of descope.
To me, Halo is about strategy. Outsmarting and outmaneuvering my opponents. Doing things that most people wouldn’t predict, which allows me to catch them off-guard. I love that.

It was an attempt to convey the dumbness of Infinity.

It has flaws and could use some fixing, but I enjoy it (seriously able to get a 1SK weapon from getting a few kills is dumb, and instant spawning)
Can I just tell you what Halo really is? The Halo Series is a video game series originally made by Bungie, which made all the Halos until Halo Reach, their finest creation, also their last in the series until 343i came into the business to continue the game, once they made Halo 4 everybody was suprised that it looked completely different from every other game in the series as if they forgot IT WAS MADE BY A DIFFERENT GAMING COMPANY.
