What, is Halo?

I think we all need this.

What is halo? To many, halo is simply a game to pass ones time. To others, it is a hobby, and others, a drive of competitive nature. The fact is, they are all playing the same game. They always have.

Some delve deep into the campain, exploring the halo lore and learning all they can. To some, the campaign is all they know, and that is how they pass their time. Then, there are players who drive to win, to compete. it is there goal to be able to dominate anyone they come into contact with, leaving them in the dust and destroying what they worked hard for. Lastly are the people who play simply to play. They dont want to be better than everyone else, the simply play for laughs on their behalf.
Some people dont seem to realise that they are all forms of fun, just maybe not yours. They all deserve a spot in halo, and have managed to live in harmony until now. With the release of halo 4 iminant, there has been an over gowing battle of sprint or no sprint, change or no change. Even people of the same catagory start to argue with one another, each one geting anrgier as every thread is posted.

Everyone soon forgets what the game is and has always been. Halo has been the leader in all the changes to FPS. They do what no one has ever seen, what no one has ever thought of doing. For over then years the creators of halo have given us many charished moments such as the unviel of halo CE, completeing halo 2 on legendary, or finding the IWHBYD skull in Halo 3. But each game has had its change, and each time there are complaints.

Look at halo 2: It turned out fine, with the new changes such as vehicle jacking and the sword, many people thought it would be unbalance then too. They changed the games formula then just as they are doing now. They did it in halo 3 too, thouh the changes were minor.

Halo reach added something we have never seen before, and i have come to realise that people are growing to like it. You no longer see the amount of hate as you did before, and while it drastically changed the gameplay it wasnt all bad.

Halo is growing and changing, as it should. It will continue to do so until the day when halo is forgotten, or all ideas used. But for now we must enjoy it. Enjoy the memories it gives us while we wait for halo 4, and expect the changes to halo 4 to be as well made as they were in halo 2.

Halo CE: The game that started it all. It had everything; vehicles, awesome weapons, and startaling enemies. It had a great campaign, filled with turns no one would have expected. It had the magic pistol, capable of destroying all in its path. But mostly it started what video games would become today

Halo 2: It may have changed, but the change was good. The vehicles were easeir to defeat, and the people easier to kill. The magic pistol was gone, but it was replaced by the fan favourite Battle Rifle. The maps were great and the campaign was amazing, delving deeper into the story and the characters.

Halo 3/ODST: Amazing campaign, finishing what halo CE had started (Or so we thought.) It would bring in the new scarabs, the new birds to fly known as hornets, and brought along a new favourite weapon; the spartan laser. Not only that, but it brought to us the mongoose, firefight and the ability to create our own maps, though limited.

Halo: Reach: Maybe the prequel wasnt as great, but it was there. The campaign was ok, the stor good if not told well. The multiplayer was enjoyable and fresh, with the new additions of the Armor abilities. The forge was updated to be much easeir to use, and forge world introduced. One could play as their own spartan in the campaign, adding a level of personality to the game of which we had never seen.

Halo 4?: I garantee that there will be new exciting memoris for this game too, no matter what they put in it.

This game has stuck with us for this long, its too great to give up now. Have hope guys, trust 343 to make the game as good as we can.

One point your missing.

The sub-genre of shooter Halo has always been is an Arena FPS.

Halo:Reach changed this and we clearly see the effect on competitive gameplay.

It didnt change this. Why do people not understand? It still, and always will be, and arena shooter. The gameplay was altered by the AA, i get that, btu altered isnt broken. You can still play it, it still plays. You can still play on an arena map.

This isnt what this thread was supposed to be about, this was about good things not bad. You want me to list the bad things becasue i can. There will be a 3 page long list by the time i am done if you want me to list the bad.

Halo has never only been one thing. But I guess since this is how you see the game you have trouble seeing it any other way. Me. I see it as this, but also as a place to have fun, laugh at nonsense that happens in custom games or sometimes even matchmaking. I see it as a game with one of the deepest and most interesting story lines, both through the campaign and novels. Halo isn’t just one thing, it just so happens that there is a large amount of people who only see the game in a certain way because that’s how they have experienced it.

What is Halo?
It’s this some sort of thing…
It’s a pretty good thing though!
it’s strong!
it’s fun!
it’s entertaining!

Let us say that it is undescribable!

or…

Halo is a ring with power!
the ring holds too much power!
the ring is… powerful!
the ring is… strong…
the ring has too much… power…
the ring is…
the ring is… mine…
the ring is mine…
the ring… is mine now…
my ring…
my… precious!!!

“shrinks abit, skin starts to decay a little, goes scrawny, teeth goes rotten”

Precious!!!

Exactly. Most people dont get that to someone else, it might be something different than how you or i see it. But its always managed to support us all, through evry game. People may not like reach, thats fine, but that doesnt mean someone else cant. I prefer halo 2, that is simply because in the campaign i could go anywhere and do anything, there were no boundries.
