There’s a lot of history behind this and I’d recommend playing the old titles or visiting the Halo Wiki to brush up on your info. Or jump into the expanded universe, if you can bare the thought of reading. But for being your age, reading is always a good thing!
Halo is a giant ring shaped construct created by an ancient and advanced alien race known as the “Forerunners” to eradicate the “Flood” which are literally space zombies that can wipe out the Galaxy in a short period of time if they were to grow large enough and create a large amount of mass forming a Gravemind. A Gravemind is the leader of the Flood, he can control all of the Flood Zombies through a hive like mentality. Like insects such as ants or bees. The Gravemind looks like a large Venus Flytrap that has bones and flesh making up its mass.
Halo can house large continents on its inner band of the ring where living things can be housed. looking no different than human worlds minus the alien architecture, The outer band of the ring is more autonomous and robotic. Probably resembling large cities or places like the “Library” in Halo 2s mission “Sacred Icon” the rings orbit large planets or gas giants to maintain It’s orbit. There were originally 12 but there are now 7. Actually 6 as the Master Chief destroyed two of the same ones on the “Ark” which builds Halos.
