What is "halo" to you?

The title says it all. I want to know what is “Halo” to you? Multiplayer wise.
To me, this is what halo is.

Tactical: Each map has different weapons, jumps, spawns, choke points, and overall feel. It is your job to think “What should I do in this situation?” Your reaction time must be fast, but your thinking time must be faster. Just running into a fray will get your killed, but if you think about what you will do and be 1 step ahead of the opponent, you will be a good player.

Requires skill: By skill, I mean this game actually requires you to AIM your gun. Your enemy must be IN the crosshairs, and its not just a one shot and you move on, your aim must be consistent, especially with other good player. Getting your shot on target is one of the most important things you can have in Halo.

Power weapons: You don’t spawn with any weapon you want, it is your job to fight for your weapon. If you loose it to the enemy, then you fight for it back! Even if its only a Battle rifle, you want that gun, you better earn it (unless its Slayer BRs, but you get my drift).

Ways to get around maps: I don’t think it should only be “Then run from point A to point B”. Having teleporters, lefts, and alternate routes is always good to have in a map. Gives you different options for both attacking or defending.

To me, what Halo is NOT

Armor abilities: to be able to plan ahead is EXTREMELY important in Halo. When you have no idea what the other player can do in a player vs player fight is so hampering and has random outcomes. Most every Halo fan can tell you Random is NOT good. To know what the other player spawns with allows you to make plans.

Custom Classes/loadouts: Again, this is NOT what halo should be. 343i said they would have unlockable weapons, I should not loose a gunfight because I spawn with an Assault rifle and my opponent who plays more often therefore higher level spawns with a Battle rifle. If you want to spawn with different weapons, vote for Slayer BRs.

So, thats what halo is to me. You guys tell me if you agree or not and tell me what Halo is to you.

Thanks for reading my thread.

Basically Halo 2’s multiplayer and campaign. Halo: Reach’s forge(better pallet), Halo 3’s theater, and ODST’s firefight.

Armor abilities aren’t in the equation.

Halo CE. That’s the only true Halo.

> Halo CE. That’s the only true Halo.

I wouldn’t go that far…I played Halo:CE as much as I played Halo 2 and honestly prefer Halo 2.

ThIs so much!

Come now, just because Halo CE was the first, and (in my opinion) it did have the best campaign, that doesn’t make it the “Only true Halo”. if Halo CE was released as a brand new game similar in every way except named something else, people would hate the -Yoink- out of its multiplayer.

An Epic Game.

A circular band of colored light around a light source, as around the sun or moon, caused by the refraction and reflection of light by ice particles suspended in the intervening atmosphere.

This is my opinion. How do you know that people would hate CE if it released as a new release. That statement is very ignorant.

Staring each an every game on even footing, having to fight for control for Weapon/ Map/Powerup/Vehicle to get the advantage and lead, while still remaining on even footing.

That is Halo.

Its only speculation, but lets say it released with Nexuiz Graphics and title, but same core gameplay, people would most likely complain about everything. Yes I love Halo CEs multiplayer for nostalgia and just for fun with friends, but the multiplayer it produces would NOT stand for long in todays gaming community.

A medium paced game where everybody spawns as equals and earns advantages throughout a match by outplaying their opponents.
Predictability is also key.

Well if the whole game were to remain on equal footing, then it would be very slow. But in fact, the more your team gains weapons, vehicles, powerups, etc. then the even footing begins to become balanced toward the team who is gaining better things. Does that mean that team will win? Not, it just means those players have a base advantage. But if two players die at the exact same time on each team, then they should have the the same advantages and disadvantages. Overall, the better team in Halo will most likely always win. With spawning with different things than your opponent, this becomes disjointed and flawed. Thats why the core gameplay of Halo 1,2,3 is so much better than Reach. It determines who has more skill, not who armor locked first.

I honestly can’t describe the feeling I get when I play Halo.
All I know is that the feeling was absent in Halo: Reach.
One thing for sure is that Halo 4 must keep me playing for hours at a time. I never spent that long in Reach during one sitting.

Pretty much summed up the OP. Halo is like chess, always think ahead. Sometimes you get yourself in a bind, but you can think away out. And if you are check mate, there is always brute force!

Clearly don’t understand Halo’s core.

gooo i love you,i would love a simple rehash of halo 2s or halo 3s multiplayer but i will say it simple

-main weapon(br)

-simple gameplay(fast,not 20000 weapons)

-1-50 ranking system

-everyone starts equal and tries to get the map control with power weapons and tries to keep the control

NOT HALO:

-almost everything frankie mentioned in the bulletin:perks,loadouts/aas,progression system…

-bloom

-assassinations

-sprint

FOR CAMPAIGN:even if we go deeper into johns feelings and memories/history i dont want him to lie crying on his bad

i want him to be a badass not much talking

and personally for me i dont want to be able to jump over things with these moves you saw in the first look video(where you can see how john opens a elevatordoor from first person)

I don’t? Could you please explain how I am wrong instead of just stating that I don’t know what I am talking about? Its not the hard to grasp. If one team has a sniper, a rocket launcher, and sword, while the other team spawns with just their Assault rifle, that doesn’t seem to balanced to me. The point I make is that as the game progresses, the game doesn’t stay balanced the whole time. Who gets the advantage can switch periodically, but in the middle of a game, is the two teams ever standing on eual footing is very rare.

The love child of halo 3 and halo CE with a PC version.
That would be the perfect halo
