What is Halo Reach really about?

I haven’t played Halo before, I did try the first two games on PC, but only the story mode and not the PvP. So I watched some videos of Halo Reach PvP, but I couldn’t get a good idea on what this offers.

Usually, I play traditional FPS games like Counter-Strike, Korean F2P FPSes, game modes include Demolition (bomb defusal), TDM, specific game modes like Payload Escort, Point Capture/Control, etc. From what I saw in Halo Reach PvP videos on YouTube, the game is a bit more wacky and chaotic, there seems to be a lot of verticality and I’m not sure what game modes were there.

Can anyone list the PvP game modes and briefly explain what they are about?

Slayer: Traditional Team Deathmatch, has teams or free for all (AKA Rumble).
Team Swat: No shields/radar and you’re given precision weapons like the DMR or the magnum.
Team Snipers: Everyone starts with a sniper.
Living Dead: Infection. A couple random players will start as a zombie and will need to infect other players. Basically Infected from MW3.
Invasion: Elites vs Spartans. One team must fight to secure zones while the other needs to defend until eventually the core is exposed. The attacking team needs to steal the core.
Grifball: One bomb in the center, teams need to grab it and plant at the enemy teams goal, everyone starts with gravity hammers and energy swords.
Big Team Battle: 8v8 Team Slayer and objective modes like capture the flag, one bomb etc.
Headhunter: Free for all mode. Players must kill enemies and collect skulls from the kill. The more skulls you hold the bigger the target you are. Person with the most skulls wins.

There are loadouts for most game modes that provide a different starting weapon and armor ability for each game mode. There are also different variants of some of the modes that change weapon spawns or how bloom works etc.

There are probably other modes I am forgetting about but those are just off the top of my head.

Awesome!

Is there any means of weapons customization? Like, scopes, barrels, etc. that alters stats and how a weapon is used?

Or any character special skills? Kinda like Team Fortress 2 where each character can do unique things (but is not limited to certain weapon types like in TF2) and you are expected to perform a specific role in your team?

In another game I used to play, Korean F2P FPS called Ghost in the Shell First Assault, characters had skills like:

  • Invisibility
  • Wall Hack
  • Healing armor
  • Sentry drones
  • Sentry turret
  • Sentry Wall

etc.

And they were allowed to use all weapons types, which was awesome.

There is no weapon customisation in Halo: Reach and no character skills. It’s all down to the skill, or luck, of each individual player. It has been a while since I played Halo: Reach but in certain game types you do get the option of using equipment such as a jet pack and armour lock.

The only thing that would be similar to character abilities would be armor abilities that each load out has, you get to choose between sprint/jetpack/hologram/armor lock and there are a few others

I think I will still buy the game anyways when it goes on Steam regardless of the fact that there are no skills or weapon customization. Thanks anyways!

I would. Halo: Reach is a fantastic game with the biggest range of cosmetics for your Spartan in any Halo game (you can change your helmet, visor colour, shoulders, wrist attachment, chest, knee armour, and what you can have on your thigh). So while there is no weapon customisation (outside of mods), you can make your Noble Six truly unique.

Halo reach has a great story customisations and gameplay my favourite
