As we all know Halo is known to be competitive, but in Halo 5 a few things take away from it’s meaning. In every map, every gamemode, and every numerical there is a strategy to win.
Team-Based Gameplay:
You’ve always had to rely on your team to win. 2 can always take 1 faster. In Halo 5, you’ll commonly be matched with ghosts (people who don’t communicate) who don’t always know what they’re doing. They just run around and shoot, depending on the objective, and die as individuals rather than fighting as 1.
Internet Issues:
So I’ve read that depending on where you are in the world, you’d have a slightly better advantage over players. While Halo 5 uses dedicated servers, you can still experience 140ms lag. Sometimes you don’t see weapon fire/effects until the last second. 1 sec of responsiveness is all it takes to be uncompetitive, as it only takes 1-3 for most weapons in game to kill (cut half for double team firing).
The weather might be bad one day, or your ISP is ripping you off, or maybe you’re just too far away from a server.
In-Game Lag:
Now we all know networking isn’t perfect, but in-game? I’ve played on campaign and even noticed AI lagging/bugging around. Either it’s just me, or Halo 5 needs some serious FPS tuning.
Flawed CSR:
I’ve been hearing complaints about the matchmaking, with 343 being silent the whole time. Players being randomly selected in teams, players buying accounts, and players cheating the system. Not every Onxy and Champion player to date can truly perform as they boast (not all, as some are fakers). So until this changes, which will probably be never, you’ll continue to be matched with bad setups. But at least you’ll know the top isn’t worth it anyways.
MJOLNIR Customization:
Spartan Armor you get in REQs are all dull. Even some of the best in my opinion suck. Only a few catch my eye, but that’s not all. You want good armor for the sake of performance as well. They have descriptions, but they don’t have any abilities. If you could truly customize from the ground up, with custom abilities gameplay would be more diverse.
VR Support:
So with all the Oculus biz about, and newer emerging VR technologies we have yet to see that support for Halo 5 or Xbox generally speaking.
Visual Experience:
Comparing Reach, Halo 4, and Halo 5 I’d say Reach has the best visual experience of any Halo game. We’re not just talking about graphics, I mean originality too. It was the best turning point for Halo, with new abilities, customization and weapons released. Halo 4 was simply a build off of that, and didn’t succeed nearly as much. I feel like Halo 5 was rushed, with Forge being released late too. Then they had a “Remember Reach” REQ pack with Noble armor… that also wasn’t customizable.
In Summary:
With all these factors considered, Halo 5’s true potential was cut short. In the making of a 5-year game, surely there had to be Intensive counseling of what 343 could and could not do with the game in their time perimeters. I can’t speak on that, but they threw it out. It would be a great game, never-the-less.
