I think I’ve gotten lag switched twice now in games.
In both cases it’s largely the same: Start out rather even is but then as the game progresses we pull ahead by a significant margin. Then the game black screens and one of my teamates quits. In both cases it’s been one of the guys with low scores, so I figured they were just dropping because they got tired of getting killed so much.
First time it happened they kicked off two of my teamates until just me and the other good guy were left. When we were still ahead after still beating them 2v4 because of their bad skill I finally got kicked from the game after a black screen.
Today I just finished a game where the exact same thing happened. Game starts out evenish and then we pull ahead. We had enough of a lead that despite the loss of two players and them obtaining all of the Power Weapons we still managed to eek out a win.
Are my teams getting lag switched? Was I lagged switched?
I does sound suspicious seeing as team mates are being kicked when it black screen but it could also just be a coincidence. Can you remember the game, maybe you should try looking up the players and see if many people get kicked from their games.
Sounds like the good old classic Halo Reach lag (switch). Play a game and dominate, suddenly and for no reason the game blacks out on you. Get back, and you’re a teammate short, the enemy has stocked up on every power weapon available during the “lag”, and sometimes even gotten a solid lead by a few kills.
Fight back, get the lead and the same thing happens again, and again, until they win. One of teh major reasons p2p is just not acceptable for gaming these days, even if it’s just “normal” lag it ruins the game.
This happens to me quite often too in Invasion, especially when my friends and I are playing a team full of Inheritors. Now, I’m not saying at all that they are cheating or anything, but it ONLY happens when playing teams like that.
> Care to describe what happens when you get kicked from the game?
Didn’t get hit offline the second time. First time it was just a normal black screen then the score card came up and showed that everyone else disconnected, then the XBL notification popped up saying I was disconnected from XBL, then the cR screen and the notification I had earned my offline cR maximum, then back to the MP menus with the notification that I was disconnected from XBL that couldn’t play.

Sounds like you got hit offline. Not sure about the offline cr thing though…some faulty net?
When the game says everyone else “quit” that means your connection dropped. For whatever reason, forcefully or not.
> Sounds like a lag switch to me. My one question though: What’s the point if there’s no ranking system?
I’d said that same thing.
Since those games weren’t ranked (nothing pretty much is ranked), why does it matter?
I know it’s annoying for some idiots to ruin your game, but it doesn’t happen that often and winning and losing gives pretty much the same amount of cR.
There’s no point in caring about winning in this game, so next time you think people lag switch, go to dashboard, start Reach again, and seach again.

no, it never says “selecting new host” after the person quits, it blackscreens yes but it doesn’t mean a host change, i think it just means that the game is re-evaluating the connection quality since it dropped after the person quit.

I don’t particularly remember a “Selecting New Host” message but the player was still present at the start of the black screen. Then when it’s over, he’s gone.
