Im confused :S , at the end of the campaign she walks out and touches chief like she is a real person and is in the same presence as him but she has been in his head the whole of the previous games right? or was she somewhere else talking to him through his helmet? I dont understand how she stopped the didact either , she physically grabbed him on that bridge which I didnt think was possible for a virtual intelligence.
Cortana was in the system of the Mantle’s Approach, the Didact’s ship. She had control over the hardlight emitters, and used those to stop the Didact as well as project a physical, solid image of herself made out of hardlight. However, she is, and always has been, 100% AI.

Oh right , is that how she saved chief too then . Using the hardlight emitters? I thought he was gonna die when he set the bomb off but then he was in some blue thing and cortana was magically there

Well, in the concept art for that cinematic, you were supposed to see the ship blowing up in the distance. Whether or not they kept this idea or not isn’t clear, so it’s possible that he was teleported away, but it’s also possible that Cortana just wrapped the hardlight around in. In either case, he was in a hardlight bubble, which is what the blue thing is meant to be.
